Hello!

Hi everyone, Our daycare have just announced yet another increase in daycare fees for our little one, which will mean weekly care will cost $550 a week, after the rebate ouch! We are not on amazing wages and are finding it hard to save for anything. My question is, Has anyone been to an accountant/ advisor to see if part time work would work out financially better? I really don’t know where to start! PS We don’t have family or friends nearby that could care for our child

  • Childcare fees are ridiculous. My grandson starts school next year and will attend after hours childcare. Less hours will cost more then the full 4 days he’s doing now. Crazy

  • Aw wow, that is a lot ! Different centers ask different fees. We get 80% back from centrelink

  • Find a qualified accountant and spend some time with them – they may also have other tips about tax deductions that you may not have considered. I think it’s worth the investment to make a good long term decision.

  • That seems very expensive for one child. I would definitely look at other centres and talk to an accountant about the benefits of reducing your work hours

  • That is crazy high! I can totally understand how you would be stressing. I would maybe look elsewhere. See what other options are around?

  • Look at other centres or local childcare options for price comparison. If there isn’t a cheaper option near you see a financial advisor they’ll be able to go over your specific circumstances to work out what’s financially best for you. Part time might be a better option if you only get minimal rebate but you’d need to look into it. Good luck it’s hard without support around.

  • There are so many variables to weigh in when it comes to finding out the worth of having your child in care vs reducing hours. Do you have opportunity for career advancement? Are you satisfied in your job? (cause being a stay at home parent definitely isn’t for everyone!), Will this impact more on your Superannuation? etc. It’s worth meeting with someone so you have every resource you need to make this decision :)
