They are fine. Or the tablets. My specialist said he has people who have been on the m for years. Only side effect is that the bowel lining goes dark after decades, not that anyone will ever see that.

I would talk to a GP. If you’re breast feeding than bub should not be constipated and may be an underlying issue if you are eating enough fruit and veggies. If you are bottle feeding than often it is the formula binding babies up. I used coloxyl drops with my first born. They smell like chocolate and you only put 1-2 drops by memory straight into their mouth or into their bottle. He was only on these from about 3 months though.

It’s definitely best to speak to your gp about it first. Be mindful that if you do end up using it bub will need extra drinks to help it be effective. Good luck!

I used for my newborn at just 3 weeks. She was very constipated and the GP recommend it. It was very good for my little one as she was in constant pain.

Because your baby is so young it would be best to talk to a nurse or doctor about it before adding anything to his/her diet. If you don’t want to go to the doctor about it there are nurses available at your local community or neighbourhood centre, just give them a call.
When you use laxatives regardless of age it should only ever be for a short time to ease the immediate problem, long term use of them makes the bowel lazy which you don’t want. Coloxyl is a safe laxative but it would be better to work out why your bubs is having trouble pooping & try to fix it instead of medicating.

Not sure if you are breast or formula feeding but exclusively breast-fed babies don’t get constipated. Can be 7 days before BM is passed.Constipation is defined as passing solid pebble like BM’s.

Ask Gp for advise, I was told by my health nurse it could take someone that young up to a week to pass a poo… When you have the next check up with bubs and gp or health nurse ask that question.. When they are that young they are still learning how to poo.. Also look into what you have eaten if breast feeding tht might of contributaed to it.. I know my kids use to get a lot of wind from my choices of food… Let us know wht they say.. It might help out a lot of mums with the same issue you ar having…

It takes a fair bit for a baby to be considered constipated. I highly recommend researching constipation in babies to determine if your baby is firstly displaying signs of constipation before looking at using aids. Coloxyl as a general rule is effective if your baby is in fact constipated.

I would book in to see the dr to have a chat about it first. Also go to the chiro to see if any adjustments might help.

its one of those hit and miss things. I very rarely used it but it did help if i needed to. My girlfriend used it daily for her son as he had dairy constipation for a long time but is now fine a rarely uses it and is ok with his poos. My advice is chat to a couple of different docs to get their opinion

maybe try natural stuff first, chiro? normal for bubs to go a long time.

let u know, my son was constipated few weeks after being born, it was partly from the formula when I wasn’t producing enough breastmilk when I got sick. I did give him Coloxyl drops. please read the instructions as I think it says 5 or 6 drops. I actually gave my son 5 or 6 full tube drops not little drops. but it didn’t work, therefore we had to give him the rocket which did work… even now hes on movicol and hes 9.
I ate mango lecorich (spelling) one time and my son got the runs, half the day being upset until I figured it out in his nappy. if your breastfeeding, eat something that will help ur baby be unconstipated if you don’t want to give your baby anything otherwise if ur bub is on formula, Coloxyl drops is the way to go unless ur baby is badly constipated, then the rocket up the baby’s butt is another way. its been 9 years so im pretty sure medication may have changed??

Bub is having issues, he needs to poo, he struggles and strains to poo, with no result. The Dr prescribed some gel like stuff to put up his bottom when he becomes too distressed, it works straight away. Without it, the poo doesn’t come out, except for small pebble like hard bits 🙁 I have heard of the brown sugar remedy, good to hear it works, might give it a go. Thank you

I wouldn’t use it unless advised by your doctor.
I have used it when my daughter was younger on doctors advise, basically it softens the stool.

I would avoid using anything on a bub that young. Is bub having issues? Are they breastfed? Remember it is normal for breastfed bubs to go up to a week without pooping.

Hi there, I would be cautious using something that is not all that natural for such a young bub. When my boy was constipated around the same age, I rang the maternal health line and they got me to give him some brown sugar diluted in water. I was much more comfortable with this and it also worked! Best of luck.
