Hello!

Why is it easier to drink down a glass or cordial, but not water? Plain water can seem too heavy to drink, yet adding even a small amount of cordial makes it easier.

  • I could not agree less ! Water, especially with some ice cubes is the best on a hot summer day ! Glad my kids love water too !

  • I feel the opposite, I like my water without anything , however do love my water cold.

  • I love drinking water but it needs to be cold. I think it makes such a difference. Also, try adding a little lemon or lime for flavour.

  • If you have very bland taste buds this can happen and you don’t feel like drinking water. Try scraping your tongue or gargling salt or bicarb water to cleanse it.

  • I could not agree more! If your struggling you could try drinking sparkling water. I can’t drink normal water now but can easily drink sparkling

  • I would say the opposite… I can smash down water easily but any flavoured drink I struggle with. I think its comes down to what you are used to – a habit like any other

  • Maybe it is due to the flavor you get from a cordial. The smell may also make you think this a better drink than the water.

  • Ha ha I was thinking the same but with the beer and water.

  • I understand what you are saying but I just leave a glass of water on the bench and have a sip when every I see it. Be quiet surprised how much you drink when you aren’t feeling forced to have to drink it.

  • My son will barely sip a glass of water, but will drink glass after glass of diet cordial. I know it isn’t ideal, but better that than not drinking any water at all. Especially as a teenager, his mates are all buying fizzy drinks and frozen drinks at the shops, so could be worse.

  • Also, I chill water and it is pleasant to drink when chilled.

  • I love to drink plain water but will also drink water with a slice of lemon or lime for a little tang.

  • I have just made the switch to sugar free cordial. I don’t see the difference flavour wise it’s still just as satisfying. I do like water thou but more so from a bottle than a glass. I can’t tell you why that is it just works better for me.

  • I 100% agree with you! I make myself drink it but it is soo much harder in winter. Sometimes I will add a cold brew tea bag to my 1 L drink bottle to make it taste nice.

  • Interesting to read your answers. Thanks. Just to clarify that cordial is not something I constantly drink. I have no issues drinking water from a water bottle and can quite easily drink 2/3s of a bottle in one go with no issues (usually refill with tap water), but find drinking water from a glass is hard to get down. I try to drink water throughout the day to keep hydrated. I just noticed how much easier a glass of water is to get down with a splash of cordial, than it is to drink from the glass without. (plastic cup/mug/glass) of different size make no difference to the dilemma.

  • i have no scientific answer to this! however i agree at times you just cant stomach another glass of water

  • Honestly I think the sugar makes it more palatable. But the problem is consuming sugary drinks can actually make you more thirty. So if you have a glass of water you’re usually satisfied, but if you have a cordial, you usually want more.

  • This is so true. I use sugar free cordial. Lime Coola

  • Cordial is loaded with sugar. Try adding a slice or two of lemon or cucumber or mint leaves to your water.

  • Try a splash of lemon or get a soda stream and make soda water.
