I would like to know, when your little one turned one did you give formula or cows milk?

  • Infants under 12 months who are unable to be breastfed need specially developed infant formulas, which are fortified and nutritionally adequate. But after at 12 months of age cows milk is appropriate, along with a good variety of solids foods

  • Usually cows milk by age one is fine. My first was prem and by the time she was one yr old she still was very little and special formula was advised by the pediatrician, but that was an exception.

  • I remembered I was informed it was cows milk because by that time they should be able to blend their diet with ours. Also the cans of formulas are very expensive , so need for that unless your child cannot take fresh milk. I think fresh is best for everyone’s diet .

  • A2 cows milk but children over 1 don’t need milk. They do need calcium which you can gt from other sources if you’d prefer.

  • i gave both.

  • I did both as it was a gradual changeover. I think there are still some benefits to giving toddlers milk as it contains probiotics which are important if you are considering putting your child in childcare as it assists with the function of the immune system otherwise I would just give cows milk. If you have any concerns over weight, health etc of your child I would probably get a proper opinion from a paediatrician or GP.

  • We went straight to full cream cow’s milk. Like others have mentioned, I think formula for toddlers is a bit of a marketing ploy and not really necessary (each to their own). Haven’t noticed any changes since, still growing at the same pace as before.

  • I gave Aldi toddler formula but only becuase my boy still wasnt eating solids properly so he needed the vitamins in it. (The Aldi one is very similar to s26 and smells like ice cream lol so he loved it!) When we ran out of formula we gave him physical low fat milk as it’s less harsh on their little tummies than full cream. Every child is different so it depends what your child needs.

  • formula for me as I wanted the extra goodies

  • One family I know swapped to UHT Milk as they were planning to travel within a week or so. They did go caravaning but a few months later than anticipated. It “keeps” better than cows milk. It doesn’t have to be refrigerated until opened. Good brands keep in the fridge for a week. The cheaper ones, some of them only keep for 4 – 5 days

  • All my kids stopped breast feeding once they were oneish, I tried the oldest on forumla but it didnt agree with him ( made him throw up all the time after feeds) so we started on full cream cows milk and he was fine with it in moderation. I think it really comes down to if your kid had ever had a bottle if thats how it going to be given to them. As my first experience wasnt the best with all my other kids they went to cows milk in a sippy cup with a staw in it gradually eg replacing one feed per week until they were fully on cows milk for every feed. Every kids is different so just do what right for you and your bubs.

  • My son is not ok with cows milk so back to formula again because cows milk make him cough.

  • I did try formula, but after one can, the ease and affordability of cows milk was way more attractive than continuing with the formula.
I always gave my daughter milk straight from the fridge too. Makes it easier to prepare when you are out and about as they don’t expect it to be warm.
If your child is eating well, I wouldn’t worry about follow on formulas.

  • We put her on cows milk. So much cheaper and if she wanted milk while down the street or we were driving a long way just pull in to a normal shop/petrol station and get a small bottle of milk.

  • We went straight to cows milk. I think toddler formula is just a money making thing.

  • my kids were formula babies when they turned one we tried cows milk but none of them liked it so we put them on toddler growng up milk at about 18 mths my kids my youngest still wont drink cows milk she likes toddler milk there is some good ones out there

  • We gave cow’s milk. But since I breast fed we’d never bought formula so it seemed silly to start. Other people I know continued with formula since that’s what they were use to.

  • I introduced cows milk from about 11 months while still breastfeeding. A little on cereal to start with to make sure they were OK with, it and then a small cup of milk when they were 12+ months and cutting back on breastfeeds.

  • Cow’s milk for my babies but as long as your bub seems fine with cow’s milk great or formula fine too but more expensive and extra item to buy.

  • I think at about that age my kids started on cows milk. Unfortunately I couldn’t breast feed and so my kids were on formula. It also comes down to personal preference and what your child likes. If they are happy to drink a little cows milk go for it.
