Hello!

Is there any mum out there who had to have surgery on the wrist/tendon from picking up the baby? Its called De Quervains Tenosynovitis. How long does the healing take after the surgery? Do u need to do exercises,…?! I’ve had it now 7 months and had 2 cortisone injections they didnt help!

  • If it’s anything like shoulder bursitis, don’t expect to ever get to pre injury use. I had the injection and a course of tablets, my shoulder still isn’t at a hundred per cent. It’s a lot better, but my range of motion is still limited by pain. And that’s 12 months after initial injury

  • Sounds painful and difficult to treat. Even with surgery, it’s no guarantee of a complete fix. My daughter only got as far as the injections and physio, which helped a lot. But it’s been 3 years and she still has issues with pain

  • Never heard of that! No wonder it exists though with all the picking up of bub we do. Sorry I can’t help, thanks for teaching me something today

  • yeah as with any injury or surgery, you will be given a sheet of exercises and have to talk to a physio and be shown how to do the exercises properly

  • An ex-relative of mine had to have wrist surgery. I am pretty sure she had to do exercises at some stage to strengthen the muscles otherwise the surrounding muscles will stop working too. Ask your GP or other Medical Professional more questions about it.
I hope whatever treatment you have is successful.

  • Oh that’s not good at all. I would go talk to at least two doctors about more treatment or even some sort of support for your wrist. I did read up a little about this condition and trying not to lift heavy things for at least a while can help you. But will a small child it is nearly impossible. My Dad had a similar problem but it took about three to five shots of cortisone injections and on the last go it worked. However, he was told to not lift anything heavier than a pencil for a while. The cortisone injections just stopped the pain. Don’t be to shy to ask family and friends for some help. Best of luck.

  • no i hadn’t even heard of this until now. i hope you can heal quickly esp with a young bub
