Hello!

I’m a diabetic and I am having the trouble that my blood sugar level sometimes goes up too high, and other times it stays right where i need it to be.

Does anyone who has dealt with this problem have a way that they effectively managed their blood sugar levels for diabetes?

  • Agree with talking to a dietitian.

  • Diet control. See your dietician. I use to use banked beans when they were high

  • Yes! talk to your doctor is the best I think!

  • talk to your doctor. There are books out there with recipe ideas and meal plans. Monitor yourself when you need to- best way to stay on it

  • It is best if you visit with a diabetic educator. They will be able to give you details advice based on your blood sugar levels. Good luck!

  • I agree with seeing a dietitian if you think that helps, but in the mean time when you have done your test and you have a high reading i would write down what you have eaten in the last few hours before the test.(or list if you havent had anything to eat) I wouldnt worry to much about listing everything you eat all the time but only when you have a high reading. That way you might be able to work out if its something in your diet thats causing it. I would also take notice if you are a little crook when taking the reading and write that on the list as well.
That way when you next see your doctor it might help work out a better management plan for you. Goodluck.

  • Bread has a high carbohydrate level. I sauggest you consult a dietician. You may/may not be aware that there are good and bad carbohydrates. Good carbohydrates are absorbed slowly and don’t cause sugar to spike. Combined with protein it “satisifies” you for longer and you don’t crave more food than necessary. You can find lists of good and bad carbohydrates, sources of protein and which fruit and vegetables contain the least sugar.
Yes, I was shocked to find that some vegetables also contain sugar.

  • Firstly, you haven’t said if you are type 1 or type 2 diabetic. If type 2 watch your diet – you need to cut out fatty foods and watch your carbohydrate intake. This includes starches and sugars.
If you are a Type 1 you need to count your carbohydrates and eat them with regard to your insulin plan. How you eat it depends on if you are on pens or a pump.
Either way I would recommend seeing a diabetes educator. They are a great source of knowledge and usually very friendly and helpful. Then possibly a dietitian.

  • Maybe a consultation with a diabetes educator, they can be a great source of support and guidance.

  • yes im a diabetic and I also have high sugar spikes, Im on a insulin called levimere its a prescription u can get from you doctor, and you need to watch your diet, the fried fatty foods and greasy foods and sweets are really bad, just watch what you put in your food an watch your salt and calorie input, you can control your diabetes but sometimes it can be a pain in the but, an it can cause all kinds of infections if you don’t get it under control.. goodluck….
