Hello!

The research states that no one knows the minimum amount of alcohol ingested that would harm an unborn baby so it is better to abstain altogether during pregnancy. Obviously they can’t ethically do this research with pregnant women. So if you drank alcohol in your pregnancy how much, and what was your rationale?

  • I didn’t know I was pregnant and had a big night out when I was around 7 weeks. I’ve never been a regular drinker, so that was the only time. No issues to report here.

  • No I didn’t as soon as I knew I was pregnant.

  • Before pregnant i drank everyday, once pregnant i turned 18 had one drink then, and one at new years to celebrate (was heavily pregnant by then) but 3 pregnancies later i never did it again, i dont see the point, rather not for the joy of having 1 drink, its more of a tease then anything hahaha and obviously would rather my baby had 100% no risks

  • I’ve never been a big drinker so it wasn’t an issue before or during pregnancy. I didn’t touch a drop whilst pregnant. I used to hate taking panadol, prescribed by a dr, just in case of its affect

  • I stopped completely as soon as I knew I was pregnant. You shouldn’t drink alcohol at all.

  • I did drink alcohol with my 1st before I knew I was pregnant. I never drank any with any of my others though, none at all. I am not a huge drinker anyway so it wasn’t a big deal for me to abstain.

  • I didn’t touch a drop! I got sick once and was told by nurse to take Panadol, I hated doing that :/

  • I never touched it only because I thought the risk wasn’t worth it. I have a friend who’s a nurse and her hub is a Dr and she had a glass of wine a night still and both kids are fine,Obviously its personal choice.

  • I only drank maybe three glasses of wine throughout my pregnancy. It was mainly because I was out of the habit because I had cut alcohol out of my diet when I was losing weight (prior to conception). I didn’t miss it because it wasn’t a part of my diet before.

  • No, never, not a drop! No drugs either. I remember I got sick during my 2nd pregnancy and was told to take Panadol,to reduce my temperature. I freaked out about that and still avoided it as much as possible, even though the Dr and nurses said it was fine. I know people who continued to drink, smoke and do drugs whilst pregnant. Most gad normal babies, a couple miscarried or the baby died at birth. I don’t think it’s worth the risk as we’re all different, what is ok for one mum, may not have a good outcome for another

  • I didn’t drink a sip; as soon as I found out I was pregnant…. a couple may have slipped though before I knew.

  • No alcohol is a teratagen that affects baby’s in the womb. Each to their own but as a student studying Midwifery….I would definitely advise against it

  • No, I never drank during pregnancy.

  • No , I’m only a social drinker anyway . I never really wanted a drink during my Pregnacy . My unborn baby was more important to me. However my friend who’s 8 months pregnet enjoyed a glass of wine over lunch in the weekend . I think each to their own , but not for me

  • I go to church so still took communion wine once a week until I threw up after, then stopped. Late pregnancy I had a couple of odd sips to try a wine (like 5). I didn’t think a sip would do any arm and I didn’t feel guilty. Late pregnancy I would have happily had a small glass of wine at a wedding/party but didn’t due to feeling judged :P My grandma was prescribed guiness back in the day for low iron!

  • No I didn’t .I didn’t want to take the risk, doesn’t worth it.

  • If you don’t want to drink during pregnancy that is great but stop making mothers who consume low levels of alcohol during their pregnancy feel awful. It is not the same as putting a glass of wine in your newborn’s bottle. It goes through a lot of processing before it reaches the baby and comments like that make people feel awful for no reason. We need to stop judging what others do when we don’t have all the correct information at hand.

  • if you wouldnt put a glass of wine in your newborn’s bottle, why would you put it into their system during pregnancy?

  • I attended one hens night and two weddings in the week before I found out I was first pregnant. I stopped after that: my body went off alcohol.

  • We got married in Las Vegas and honeymooned in Hawaii. I had a celebratory drink or two after our wedding and in Hawaii, but not too much. I found out a week after returning to Australia that I was pregnant. So I unintentionally drank during the early stages of pregnancy. Once I knew I was pregnant, I didn’t have any more alcoholic drinks until I became a mum.
