Hello!

How did it work out with settling times and night feeds? I would be interested to know if it worked out if both were good/heavy sleepers or if they kept each other company in the night. Thanks

  • I shared a room with my younger brother until I was about 7 or 8 and I remember using a torch to play shadows on the walls. I was happy when I got my own room though.

  • My 8 month old shares a room with my 3 year old and it’s been pretty good. Hubby and i were a little hesitant as our older kids all got their own room when they left our room but surprisingly there hadn’t been any issues with bubs waking up for night feed. My 3 year old is a very heavy sleeper so that helps but bubs is slowly sleeping through the night and will occasionally wake up and cry for his dummy but then resettled pretty fast.

  • My children have always shared rooms. One bed one side. Another the other. Both responsible for their space

  • I shared with my brother for a long time – I think until I was about 8 or 9 years old and I don’t remember any problems but my children have never shared. In some ways I wish they had but at 10 and 13 I think they are too old to try

  • My cousins shared a room and they are 18 and 19 now. They were very close (age wise) and so their bedtimes was always together. My Aunty kept the little one in her room until she slept through.

  • Our 7 and 4 year olds shared a room for a couple of years becuase we had a relative from the SE of SA boarding with us for high school.

  • We currently have mr 11, mr 8, mr 4 and miss 3 in one bedroom, miss 2 and mr 1 in another. It used to be: boys room, girls room. It was terrible! One girl would keep the other girl up all night, non stop tears. Once i moved mr 1 in with her inside a calm descended. He is so relaxed he doesn’t care if his sister squeals, he just goes to sleep anyway.
Mr 4 and miss 3 love chatting at night before falling asleep. I will eventually have the girls back in together again. But for now its about making everyone fit and making sure they can all get some sleep!

  • I had three children in three years and they all were in the baby room. I would settle them and put them down one by one. I would feed the newest baby out in the family room, settle the baby and place them back in the room. I feel that they bonded with each other and when I told the eldest to sleep as the baby was having a sleep that seem to work.. most of the time. We later changed homes and gave the girls a double bed in one room and single beds in another room. They chose the single beds in one room until they went to school then they wanted their own rooms. I felt that they had their own space and when they wanted they could go play by themselves. It also taught them manners as they still knock on closed doors and ask to come in. I believe being in one room works and help the children to respect each-others space. Being caring when it come to making noise and packing up messy toys etc.
