Hello!

I’m currently 6 months PP and breast feeding and almost every night I am having to sleep on a towel due to extreme night sweats. I get out of bed and my clothes are saturated, my hair completely damp and waking because I can feel sweat dripping down. Does anyone else struggle with this?

  • I was sweaty before pregnancy, during, and now after haha. But I’ve heard it’s so common to experience it after birth.

  • I definitely did after my twins were born – it lasted about 12 months and doctor said it was a normal thing postpartum, especially while breastfeeding. I’d see your GP if you’re worried.

  • Nights sweats after birth is very common.
Most women report that it peaks around two weeks after childbirth and begins to improve after that, resolving completely by the six-week mark. If you experience night sweats that do not resolve after six weeks, it becomes more likely that there is another underlying cause. In those cases, your OB-GYN can help.

  • Yes, i did for quite a while after my twins were born, i never had it with my son who is older. Its a weird thing. Just as i was getting used to waking up all wet it went away. Probably lasted about 6 months after giving birth.

  • Yes my doctor said it was normal and just hormones

  • Yes I remember waking up covered in sweat the joys of all those extra hormones and new ones post birth and teamed with breastfeeding it terrible I remember waking up the first time it happened and thinking oh crap I’m getting sick nope just hormones! It does get better and all those hormones will regulate again. Just give your body time to adjust it’s had something huge happen and they say it take 12-18 months or something to come back from having bub! I know they still bloody suck

  • Yes! And when I mentioned it to my CHN she acted like she’d never heard of it!!
Even still a year after stopping breastfeeding I still get it, some nights worse than others!

  • I haven’t but I have heard many others who have. I think worth getting to the gp to see what they could help with too!

  • I don’t have it at an extreme but I’m almost 2 weeks post partum and notice I’ve been sweating at night when I don’t normally. Never experienced this with my other children.

  • There can be mean reasons for this. I suffer from night sweats myself and it sucks. I recommend seeing a GP just to rule out anything sinister. All the best

  • I did get nighttime sweats after pregnancy but I don’t think they lasted that long ( even though I was still feeding) It might be worth seeing your GP and getting some bloods done just for peace of mind. Hopefully totally normal for you but always good to check.

  • You are not alone darling. I had the same thing, this happened before I gave birth to my daughter but midwife puts it down to having pre-eclampsia. It was the only pregnancy I had the sweats, funny that it was during winter too very frustrating. Hope you find a solution :)

  • I had the same thing for about a month or so after I gave birth, but it taped off after then. My doctor said it was hormone related. It wasnt pleasant for sure :(

  • I did a few times when I was PP, too. i think it was just adjusting to the changing hormone levels

  • I’ve not had it that bad… have you talked to your GP? It sounds extreme.

  • Right there with you Mumma. I am 12 months PP, not breastfeeding and still suffering with extreme night sweats. I have booked an appointment with my GP this week to get full bloods and hormone levels checked, I will check back in with any help or answers I get that might help.

  • No, that hadn’t happened to me. I hope it’s nothing serious, but you should see your Dr just to make sure.

  • Yes but the best way to deal with this is to peel off the layers and keep your windows open for circulation and always use cotton sheets/clothing and not to wear socks or head covers to bed. Don;’t sleep in robes even if it is super cold and don’t use heater and keep a glass of water by your bedside and sip on it if you are hot. This helps bring the body temperature down and wake up hydrated.

  • I would recommend seeing a GP.

  • This is me now and I’ve had two kids and I’m not breastfeeding. I have no idea why but I got this whole pregnant and it hasn’t left me since!!!
