Hello!

I’ve just been “hit-on” by a Gumtree Buyer!
So, do I just ignore his emails ( and hope he gets the message) or reply & advise him I am married with kids!
Keep in mind he knows where I live!

  • definitely ignore this person and he will get the message.

  • Get your husband to reply to him!, if he persists lodge a police report and also report him to gumtree as they can deactivate his account. try and ignore him as much as possible as these idiots thrive on attention, but I would be lodging a police report if he persists after talking to your hubby.

  • It depends what you mean by ‘hit on’. If it is one-time email contact him and politely and clearly inform him you are not interested. If he persists then inform the police.

  • I would be E-mailing saying thanks but I am happily married and please don’t E-mail again

  • Not a good feeling! E-bay is no better either.
You had better tell your husband before you notify the Police.
A friend of mine was pregnant. Somebody who knew where her husband worked, rang his workplaceand when the phone was answered by a work colleague the male said “ha ha your baby is dead” The guy who answered the phone almost collapsed – he and his wife had only a couple of weeks before lost a baby to SIDS. My friend’s husband was the only other one there so he tried to ring his wife. Remember my friend was pregnant so it could have been correct. Also their elder daughter, only just over 16 months old was staying with her parents. My friend was scared something had happened her so she rang her Mum to check on her. She then rang the Police. When her husband couldn’t reach her by phone or the next door neighbour he decided to drive home. When he got home there was one Police car parked in their driveway and one out the front of their house so he drove across their front lawn and ran in the front door which she didn’t lock when she let the Police in. The Police were about to arrest him when she told them no that he was her husband. He later called his Mum to make sure she hadn’t had any hoax calls and that if she did to ignore them, to be sneaky and try and get the caller’s name etc. unless the caller hung up straight away. His Mum never got a call.

  • A polite honest response saying you are married is what I would do, request no further contact and warn that if there is you will notify the police.

  • pls ignore and dont respond!

  • I would just advise you are not available, and keep and eye out. YUK

  • I would let him know you are married with kids and not available. If he persists I would think about contacting police (given that he knows where you live). Probably a good idea to let your hubby know too.

  • Also; the advice about getting all of your details removed seems quite sensible.

  • *nutjob alert*
Yeah, I agree, it’s probably best to ignore him.
Did he hit on you after purchasing something from you? Does he know you’re married? If he does, I’d be even more dubious. Keep a hold of all his communication (hopefully, you won’t need to resort to showing it to authorities, but just in case).
These sorts of morons thrive on attention… So just don’t give him any. He will soon go away. The moment he persists, report him to the police.

  • Gumtree has no safety measures that I am aware of. I had a badvexperienceband nothing was done about it. In this instance with you, I suggest you do not ignore this person, report to police immediately. You can’t take chances with your safety. Get all of your details removed from Gumtree.

  • I would ignore him and hope he gives up, if not tell him you want him to back off and that your husband is not happy. If he does not stop or gets abusive I would contact the police, I would also be contacting gumtree to let them know so they can ban him as this is not right.

  • Does Gumtree show your address to people?

  • wow that’s scary, does gumtree show your address? Is there a contact for gumtree you can speak with to maybe have him banned from it?

  • Yeah I would ignore to start with and if it becomes persistant… I would send an email back saying that you are married. He’ll get the hint.

  • That’s dodgy! If it were me, I’d ignore it initially and hope that he gets the hint. If he persists then I’d straight out tell him to stop contacting you. If he gets aggressive then don’t hesitate in contacting the police.

  • Thats just not okay! The thing that I hate about Gumtree is there is no security. I have had fishy emails, bad phone calls and bad experiences too. I no longer feel safe with this site.
