Hello!

Do mums donate food for Christmas hampers? I put extra food in my trolley throughout the year and then donate it to charity at the end of the year.

  • Yes, always good to think about those who’re less fortunate

  • Our kids schools ( high school and primary) both collect for Christmas hampers so we donate to those. We also like to choose a present for the Kmart Gift tree every year. I think its important that kids learn to “give” to others where they can .

  • Evert time I shop between now and Christmas, I always buy something extra and a bit special to put in the big box my local supermarket has for the needy.

  • This is a wonderful idea to give to other’s at Christmas and by buying through the year helps!

  • It’s a great idea to give to others at Xmas time and I love that you’ve done it with food. I’m sure some lucky family appreciates what you do.

  • My son is still in a catholic school this year and I can guarantee every year they are asked to help Vinnies by donating for hampers etc.. A great cause at this time of year .

  • that is really lovely of you. i bet people really appreciate that!

  • Anything we can all give to help others is a wonderful gift at this time of the year. :)

  • Yes I do, its good to either buy some extra staples groceries and pop them in a food bank or wesley mission etc box. I go through my pantry a few times a year too and donate some of those impulse buy treats that never get eaten! (unopened and within date of course) as I figure some treats and special cheering things can be as important as the more basic fare.

The Kmart wishing tree is good, I asked a worker once and they mostly get gifts for the younger kids so I try and give something that could be for a teenager, or young adult, apparently that where the shortage usually lies :) And if you want to help further abroad at this time of the year Oxfam unwrapped is a good option that can make a real difference too.

  • Our local shopping center does a food collection at this time of the year which I contribute it :)

  • Although I donate a different times for particular things I don’t generally just donate although I think it is a beautiful idea and I think I will look into it.

  • Yes I do. Our church does a collection at the end of the year and I sometimes also will buy an extra item and chuck it in the box outside supermarkets.

  • Love all of these comments and it really does warm my heart as I love to donate food, toys, gifts for teens and adults at Christmas time. Christmas is the time for giving and sharing and being a part of a wider community.

  • Yes I make a conscious effort to donate food to charities. I also buy toys for the wishing tree, buy raffle tickets from just about everyone selling knowing I am very unlikely to win, and put together shoeboxes to be sent overseas. It is great to give generously to others and Christmas is a great time to brighten someones life.

  • The local school usually has hamper drive leading up to Christmas. I send in my non perishable goods. My bank has a similar thing and I donate to that as well. I also usually put something under the KMart wishing tree

  • I donate food and sometimes unwanted presents to school charity drives or the K-Mart wishing tree.
