Hello!

Our children go to sleep in their beds but always end up in our bed during the night. Do you let your children sleep in your bed?

  • This is not my cup of tea, however I would never judge anyone who does. For some parents it’s the only way they will get any sleep themselves.

  • Don’t all parents go through this?! I know I did. It seems easier to let it happen just to get some sleep!

  • For me, it’s about survival. You do what you have to, to ensure you get enough sleep to function. Did I want my kids in bed with me, no. But if we all sleep, and there is no dramas, is it really hurting? They are only little for so long

  • I don’t – but that’s just a personal thing that I’ve always done as I’m a terribly light sleeper and have a terrible sleep with kids in the bed or even in the room – my babies went straight from the hospital to their own rooms – it just worked for us. Saying that if they’re scared or sick I wouldn’t kick them out but they don’t often come in – usually just the mornings for a cuddle

  • BC (before children) = no I did not agree. AC (after children) = whatever works best for your family and sleep is the number one goal in our house. however it works as long as its safe (sids safe sleeping guide)!! My how one can change!

  • We were soft with our first child ( daughter ) and she slept in our bed the whole year and it was a nightmare. We learnt from it and our son was a breeze in sleeping in his own cot. Be persistence and it is best if your partner agree with it as well as it is pointless if you have different rules . It really is hard in the beginning but will work if you are perservere every night /day .

  • We let out kids sleep in our bed if they are sick or unhappy about something, but we don’t encourage it to be a regular thing. They know if they need us they can wander down to our bed.

  • I am a single mum, so it’s a bit easier to share my bed. I let my son sleep with me on either a Friday or Saturday night. He gets to choose. It’s lovely.

  • I hear you! My two year old always ends up in our bed about 2-3am in the morning and we are always too tired or half asleep to be bothered taking her back to her own bed. Just think as they get older they won’t be doing this so maybe appreciate the morning cuddles while you can lol!!

  • Of a mum of now adult children I’ve realised it all goes way too quick, and if my 4yr old wants to come in for a comfort cuddle well so be it. It never hurt anyone.

  • Mine always did. Usually if they were sick or scared or if one of us were away for the night. I know of a mum who had her 14 yo son sleeping with her still. I think that’s a big wrong

  • I don’t allow my son to sleep in my bed.
He knows that when it’s night, he needs to be in his own bed. When he’s up in the morning, he jumps in with me for cuddles, that’s the only time he gets away with it :)

  • I must say no but I’m guilty of letting him come into our bed if he is particularly unsettled. I just can’t bring myself to getting out of bed and settling him every half hour. This is usually when he is sick though so most of the time he stays in his own bed.

  • We did and they grew out of it. It was not a problem we even bought a KING size bed knowing we would be ok if the kids ended up in our bed.

  • OMG I could have posted this myself!! I just let them come in….I know it might be wrong but I need my sleep and it works for us! The way I see it…..there aren’t any teens that I know of that sleep with their parents so they’ll grow out of it at some stage! Lol.

  • I believe you do what’s best for you. My oldest son never slept with me. My youngest son did every night util he was 11 months old and I bought him a double bed. I now lay with him until he is asleep and can sneak out lol. He is still breast fed at almost 16 months and wakes to be fed. But at least I have my bed space lol

  • I surely DO!!!! I believe that babies or children get scared or sometimes just want there parents.. There is NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!

  • Sounds like My house at times… My Kids do the same thing but mostly now When They are sick, now .They would love to sleep in our bed with us But If we did that and kept that routine I think we wouldn’t get enough sleep for work and may cause hick ups in our relationdship

  • I try to only let them if they are ill so i dont have to keep getting up to check on them, i have found if they are crook they seem to sleep much better in our bed then their own, but my hubby does go off and sleep in their bed if that happens mainly as he is the main wage earner so he doesnt catch their bug.

  • We don’t let the kids sleep in our bed. If we wake up to our daughter getting in she is put straight back to her own bed. She is getting sneaky at climbing in without someone noticing but as soon as one of us wakes up she is put back to her room.
