Hello!

Hi there, Could you please ask other readers, what is the difference between baby milk formula, the original ones and the gold ones? Also which is the best one to use, for 9month olds? Thank you so much xo Do you have any advice on the different formula options?

  • Karicare is also a good brand and most children can take it

  • Nestle is a good brand to use at 9 months old. I would even be introducing solids if you haven’t all ready

  • I started my son on S26 gold, but all of a sudden at about 4 months he wouldn’t sleep through the night, would throw up a couple of times a day and was constipated. We then switched him to the Nan HA gold (easy to digest formula) and within 3 days he was regular again and sleeping through the night. When he turned 6 months we put him on the next formula up, and haven’t looked back

  • We tried many formulas and most of the gold ones caused constipation. We did finally settle on aptimal gold, we tried the normal karicare and it didnt settle her so we were advised to try the gold one and it has been great for the past 4 months. From what I can tell the difference is extra fish oils and some extra vitamins.

  • My little man started S26 gold at around 5months and then went onto the S25 progress orignal. He’s now 8 months old and I’ve had no problems with this formula

  • I would also say don’t bother with the gold formula. S26 gold was terrible for my little boy. Heinz nurture I found was the best and also not expensive 🙂

  • My son was on the S26 gold when he was born, but it made his tummy go funny. I highly recommend Novolac formula that you can get from the chemist. They have all sorts of formula designed for babies with colic, reflux, sweet dreams, etc.

  • Formula is a lot like nappies it’s up to brand and personal preference they all do the same thing

  • First child had S26 (the basic one) He was really settled, an second child was on Nestle (basic one again) through a recomemdation from a nurse, but wasn’t as settles (don’t know if it was the formula or not). Both were cheapest at the time. I was told by a child healthcare nurse, don’t worry about paying extra for the Gold ones, it’s not worth it. It I had my time again, don’t think I would use the Nestle one again though, but I would with S26. (I have no idea if they are still available, kids are now 9 & 6)

  • Gold are generally whey based, regular are casein based, they say whey based tastes more like breast milk ( but it really doesn’t lol)

  • generally extra iron and fish oils from my undrstanding

  • The HA’s are also easier to digest,

  • Gold is meant to have more nutritional value but if you check the back of the tins out they are basically the same. I use Bellamy follow on formula it is a little more expensive but all organic.

  • Gold has more omega fatty acids usually. Typically from fish oil. Good for nerve cells but usually makes tummies upset and burp fish breath!

  • I found the gold have my girls wind. I just use normal karicare.

  • My son is 17 months and still has 2 cups of formula a day ( brekky and dinner ) and its the stage 3 Nurture Gold brand. He has been on gold nurture formula since he was 5 weeks old and we have never had a problem with it, he’s never been sick from it, never had any side affects. I would highly recommend this brand as I have heard so many other bad stories about other brands. At the time, nurture was one of the top rated formulas as I did my research wanting to give him the best possible thing other than breast milk. Hope this helps xx

  • Gold usually have extra iron which can really upset their little tummies. I started my son on nan ha gold when he was 3 months old but the nurses said just use the cheaper version, we switched to nan pro & his tummy was more settled & he’s been happy & healthy ever since, he’s now 14 months.

  • Gold formula contains pre biotics,ALL karicare normal & gold actually all contain omega now, gold is just a preference i never used gold as i have a sensitive stomach and was told to stick with the norm,i also never went up to step 2 as it severly constipated my daughter, when us adults take pre biotics it can make us feel yucky in the guts another reason i dont find it necessary to use.

  • discuss with your healthcare nurse regarding which formula is the best one and will depend on how your baby takes to it.

  • Ask your local chemist
