My youngest has Down syndrome and is in year 1 now after repeating Prep. In her case (like with lots of kids with Down syndrome) her fine and gross motor skills aren’t as well developed and she functions well below prep level. We’ve worked for years on her writing her name and finally she comes close to that. I sit daily with her to trace letters, by writing a letter to her teacher aide daily. Our effort start to pay off.
On your question if your child is dyslectic, that ‘s hard to say. When you have concerns I would ask to have it tested.

To be honest my 10yr old still makes a lot of spelling & grammar mistakes and although she can write neat it’s most of the time messy. When he gets better everyday as you say I wouldn’t worry too much. When my kids were little I had them writing in a journal everyday which really helped.

It could be too early to make a call of dyslexia. He is reading and writing so that’s a positive. You seem to be having everything checked out, I’m sure you’ll have definitive findings soon

well done for making an appointment, no childs writing is perfect, they are a kid. but with the appointment it can cover all bases that the teacher is worried about and gives you sound of mind at the end just to assure you everything is ok

Dyslexia is often spelling words back wards and that pattern would be seen quite a lot. An untidy printer or still grasping spelling is not dyslexic. Until you get a diagnosis from an actual professional I wouldn’t take much notice. Unless you are seeing words like this … sdrow ekil sdrow otherwise a teacher should have a lot of evidence on her findings .

Don’t worry about it there are varying degrees and some people find out as adults with no previous issues. If you are happy with his progress you can find out off the specialist and get the best advice and help either way.

I don’t think mst kids of this age have great handwriting. Have you asked the teacher why she’s concerned? I think you need professional guidance, and it’s great you’ve made an appointment.
