Hello!

I specially make a hand made birthday card for my family but rarely receive a thank you or acknowledgement that it was received. Am I expecting too much hoping to receive a text to say thanks?

  • I always say thank you. For a gift or a card, if someone helps me out, thank you is the first thing I say

  • I find that it’s disappearing I still expect a thanks

  • I always thank you and so do my kids. And no I don’t think you’re expecting too much, they should say thank you for any card, a hand made one is more precious

  • We tend to write and thank for presents but not cards, unless it has come a long way in which case we drop an email to say it has arrived (often before opening the card). I think sending a card back to say thank you for the card sent is a bit much, but with a handmade card that has taken lots of time to make it would be nice if the recipient did let the sender know it has been received. So maybe let them know you’d like a quick text or email or phone call to know it has arrived. I would hope that they would also add a ‘thanks’!

  • I do, hubby does and our kids do :) We also say please, thank you, hold doors open for people and give up our seats for elderly and infirmed

  • I don’t think you are. I recently gave a voucher away to someone, I wouldn’t use it and knew this person would. It was worth a $100 and I didn’t get a thank you either. It doesn’t hurt, so say it people. I always say it for the smallest thing, letting loved ones know they’re appreciated

  • Lovely and very thoughtful of you. People often get too busy and forget to say thank you these days. Id ask them via text if they received it

  • It’s always nice to receive a thankyou for sending a present or card.

  • I always say thankyou and use manners how I was brought up and my daughter does the same. Its up to the parents to teach this.

  • Not hoping too much at all! Maybe they didn’t actually recieve it yet? On our side there’s been a bit of delay on some mail for some reason, we’re still recieving our sons cards even now!

  • I’ve noticed this too. I’m always proud when I hear my kids say thank you and in a way that the recipient knows they mean it. You are not asking too much :(

  • No; it is a fair expectation.

  • You are not alone in this, it is a hard lesson to teach kids that sometimes when you send a card/letter to someone you just have to let it go

  • Ive also noticed this, you give a birthday present which they open later and you don’t get any acknowledgement

  • Some of my friends and relatives say thanks for receiving cards and some don’t. I’m always left wondering if the people who don’t mention it actually received them or not.

  • You are a special person and differently the love and thought was there, so praying that some day soon that thoughtfulness will be repaid.
The old saying “It is better to give than receive” is a classic.

  • I think you are amazing sending cards, I also send birthday cards and recieve nothing back to say that they were even recieved. Also in return my children recieve nothing. I have no idea what this world is coming too sometimes!

  • What a beautiful thought you had. I always thank people that send me something. But the opposite doesn’t always apply. :-(

  • i would love a handmade card! they are beautiful and so personal and i keep the rare few that i have from when my first child was born almost 8 years ago. i haven’t received one since because everyone sends texts instead i know people are so busy and some are genuine that they don’t have time but i think that it only takes 30secs to send a message and say thanks so it isn’t hard to do. don’t worry about it too much though. you are a lovely person to put so much effort into your cards.

  • I buy pretty thank you note pads which encourages kids to write a thank you! We set aside time to sit and write thank you notes; especially at Christmas time.
