  • Emotional outburst and frustration are a form of communication, especially seen by kids who can’t express in words just yet (and how many adult struggle even to give words to feelings). Think it’s most important to acknowledge the feeling and help to express in words and actions. I have an OT involved with both my 6yr old & 10yr old who focuses on emotion regulation.

  • Oh my goodness, I am currently going through this as well. When she has an outburst, we count to 5 together, deep breaths , and then ask her, what she is feeling. Why she is upset, angry etc. More often than not she can’t explain why. But she has calmed down enough to talk about the situation. If she says she doesn’t know I offer a couple of options (cos I’ve been allowed to gather my thoughts as to what might have triggered her) If i get the correct answer, we talk about how we could deal with it differently if it happens again.
