  • My child first flew at 10 months old, and it was a surprisingly positive experience overall! The biggest challenge was managing nap times and making sure they stayed comfortable during takeoff and landing. I made sure to have plenty of snacks, toys, and a familiar blanket to keep them distracted and calm. The ear pressure during landing was a bit tricky, but I gave them a bottle to help with that. Traveling with a baby definitely takes more planning, but the flight itself was fine—just a bit more hands-on! Would recommend bringing extra layers and baby-friendly entertainment.

  • My daughter was about 8 years old and it was also my first time on a plane too. Challenges were not really knowing what we were supposed to do but everything was fine. Since then we’ve flown many times and I’ve always found people helpful and kind when traveling with children

  • My son was 6 weeks old when he first went on a plane. I was told to breast or bottle feed him during take off and landing to encourage the sucking motion so his ears wouldn’t pop. Seemed to work as we have no issues. As he has got older we have been numerous other times and encouraging that chewing/ sucking motion is always recommended

  • My son was 9 weeks old. I breast fed during take off and landing and has no issues. My daughter was 2, she always had ear issues, which flared up. But didn’t last long

  • We avoided it when they were little.

  • My kids are 4 and 2 and we still haven’t taken them on a plane!
I think I’ll wait until number two is a bit older as he’s quite naughty at the moment and can’t sit in a seat for longer than 10 minutes.

  • My son was 9 weeks old, again around 9 months, nearly 2, nearly 3. All was fine

  • 8 months old, Adelaide to Cairns. Actually went like a dream. We had plenty of snacks and drinks ready, toys and drawing. Made sure I had a bottle ready, dummy also ready to suck on for take off and landing (helps with ears) and she had a 1 hour nap while I held her. We saw a lady on our bus to Port Douglas from the airport and she said she was so surprised how good our daughter was! It was a jetstar flight so we bought her the jetstar bunyip stuffed toy from the menu on the plane and we still have it as a momento!

  • My son was 2. He loved it but had some ear troubles so we brought along some lollies for him to chew which helped.

  • I am looking to take my daughter on a airoplane this year. She will be 4. I am hoping she enjoys the experience as she loves looking up and seeing planes in the sky. I have had friends who have taken kids that are young and also waited. I think it depends on the child. Some of them have been prepared with activities and snacks for them. I will be organising lots of craft activities for my daughter as well as the iPad when I travel.

  • My little one has just gone in her first plane ride, she was 6 months old and done so well.
We made sure we had the ear muffs for take off and landing (even when she tried taking them off) and a small bag of toys (variety) to try and keep her entertained.
We also tried to get a flight that aligned with her nap time in hopes she would sleep part of the trip.

  • My twins were 2 1/2. It was better than expected. I took some sticker books and their favourite snacks and food. Because they didn’t eat the plane food which was expecting. Some screen time (iPad). The trip was okay. I was hoping they sleep a bit more. We were on a plane for 24 hours. And they just fall asleep when we had to change plane. And struggled to fall asleep again on the second plane. But overall it was a good trip.

  • Our 6 year old son was terrified of heights but had no comprehension of just how high we were. He had a wonderful time until he had to go down a set of big steps on the tarmac to get off and they were SO high! I’d just not give them too much detailed information. Act like it’s just another bus trip etc.

  • 6 and she was fine, she had chewing gum for her ears which she thought was soo cool and just popped on movies etc

  • My son was 9months
Flight over was a dream, flight back was a nightmare.

I 10000% do not recommend a bassinet seat. The seats are so much smaller, bassinet takes up so much room.

  • My daughter was 5 months when we travelled from qld to tassie in 2 seperate flights. She was breastfed so i used the advice to have her feeding while taking off and landing to help with ear pressure and the flights went smoothly.

  • We kept to a routine of sleeping, drinking water and eating and also stretching and moving. Important to keep hydrated and nourished and have mini movement breaks.

  • I made sure they were older as I know I would get embarrassed with a crying baby when the plane takes off and lands.

  • My son was 4 months old when he had his first airplane travel. I didn’t think it was challenging at all at that point. Breastfeeding during the flight made it easy.

  • We travelled overseas with the kids in single figure ages. We had activities and snacks and the trips were terrific and fun.
