Hello!

What are everyone’s opinions on the flu vaccinations? I have never had it done before and have only ever caught the flu once. I am thinking of getting a vax this year to make sure I don’t bring home the virus and give it to the little one.

  • I am ambivalent… I had it this year as it was free at work, but I got a really hellish flu this year whilst in Bali, and it took loads of drugs to get rid of, and many, many weeks!

  • I get it free at work every year but didn’t this year. so far all good. you still catch virus/head colds though

  • I had never previously gotten the fluvax but I did when I was pregnant and have continued to do so. I figured that if I can help keep away some of the germs from my family, then I should!

  • Also; if travelling it might be advisable?

  • It really does depend on the individual; it is recommended for the elderly and people with compromised health.

  • It’s up to you, however I’m not big on the flu vax.

  • The fluvax is altered each year to keep up with changes in the flu virus itself, I think it is a positive although I dont get the shots myself

  • I have had one 2 years running now and recommend it, so many strains of the flu are dangerous to the elderly and young

  • i have done it ever year and have never had the flu

  • i am always a go go on vaccine :)

  • I wouldn’t go a cold & flu season with out getting the vaccination, so I’d say “Yes”, go ahead and have it done. Five years ago, non-vaccinated, I got the flu and I ended up being hospitalized with it, it was so bad & I was so ill. Seriously, I have never felt so sick in all my life. Temperature of 42 degrees, pain that made childbirth seems like a picnic, and unable to move from bed. And it threw the household into utter chaos, because I wasn’t able to do even the basics. You’ll still get colds & sore throats, but you won’t be bed-ridden for days with the flu.

  • It will protect you and from passing it on to ur little one.

  • i get my shot done

  • I did have it this year, and had a slight reaction, nothing bad. Not sure I’m keen to get my 3year old to have it though

  • Hubby gets it each year as it is a requirement as a volunteer Ambo, I however refuse each year (I am diabetic so get for free) as every year I watch hubby spend a few days in bed to recover from a bad cold (one of us still needs to be able to parent lol). I had a bad case of the flu 15 years ago and believe that I have some natural immunity.

  • There is one particular brand of the vaccine that they don’t use on children due to some issues a couple of years ago, other than that my doctor said there’s been no issues. We started with the flu vaccines last year when our children were 18 mths old and 3 and had no issues and have vaccinated them again this year with no problems. My youngest was a bit cranky for 24 hrs but that’s it. Pretty normal reaction. Touch wood we haven’t had the flu yet, given how scary it can be I opted to vaccinate all of us. Each to their own though.

  • We don’t get the flu vax. I am pro vax but this is the one that we just dont risk. too many people have reacted badly to it. Esecially children :( I just take extra precautions, we don’t let people visit if they are unwell, i carry hand sanitiser everywhere and use it a lot when out in public.

  • I have some health issues so get one every year. The two years I didn’t I was sick on and off all year. The years I have had it I may of had a cold or two, but no where near as sick as when I don’t get it. I’ve never had any side effects from it.
It’s a personal choice, so speak to your Dr about it and see what they recommend. It’s good to remember though that the flu vac is not a live virus, so if you get the flu soon after having it, it was because you were already exposed to it, not because you got the injection.

  • I know of three people this year that got the flu vax and ended up in hospital desperately sick. I don’t know weather they changed it this year or something. I never get the shot personally because I always got the flu 2 days after one time I even got pneumonia so I’d rather take my chances

  • years ago I had a shot & had a bad flu so I skipped next year was healthy so following year I had shot again and got flu. 90% of people I know have it get sick in week or 2 after and it only protects certain strain – as we all know every year there are new strains. so personally I don’t but situation is different
