Some years ago we had a lice plague. I was literally every afternoon busy treating & combing for many weeks and it didn’t stop. I went for a very unconventional method and bought lice treatment for dogs ! A couple of drops on the head of each child and it was gone.

I’d ask my local pharmacy for the most effective products.

Head Lice are a Nightmare so hard to get rid of them they say just use conditioner and a lice comb its a long painful thing but it does work

For headlice, after trying everything, we cut the kids hair short. Really short. Pixie hair cut for my daughter. Very short hair for my son. That was, we could tackle the metal comb and conditioner easily, rather than through the masses of curls.

We use the Nit Wits spray to tackle head lice but I have heard you can make a tea tree oil spray & spray that in yours and your children’s hair & the lice won’t go near it.
Not sure how true it is because I’ve never tried it myself but if you google head lice tea tree oil spray I am sure something will come up.
I think it’s so sad that this keeps happening in schools. If all parents put in as much time & effort as you head lice wouldn’t be such a large problem.

Forever?!! I don’t think it’s possible is it?? We’ve been lucky but some families all get it bad-and they don’t care!! I don’t understand some people.

The only way you will keep them at bay forever shave every hair off the head and keep It that way,

If your kids are at school I kept saying to the school every day I found headlice and so they would send letters home and you can also contact the health department. Even in the school holidays I washed their hair all the time and then one day it just stopped but I think too because my children moved classes and so weren’t around the same kids all the time.

You can’t get rid of them forever, you can only try and prevent them. Tea tree oil, lavender and water spray helps deter them. Try not to have her hair squeecky clean either, head lice like clean hair. Keep it tied up if possible, I used to braid or plait my daughters waist length hair. It’s hard to control an outbreak if not all parents do the right thing. If she gets them, conditioner combed through is the easiest and gentlest on the hair. Good luck!

I have been told that lice don’t like coconut oil etc so if you can find a shampoo with coconut oil smell in it that might work. But other then that all I can say is boy do I feel for you my daughter used to get them frequently too but now she is a teen and at high school she no longer does.

looking over the responses, I see a lot for the good old tea tree oil and water. While this works well, I use 1 ml of tea tree oil, 1 ml eucalyptus oil and I ml lavender mixed with water in a spray bottle every morning. While tea tree oil is good, it only works on the adults where the eucalyptus suffocated the nits as well. Lavender technically does nothing but I have girls and it makes it smell nicer. My daughter has hair down to her bottom and she’s only had headlice 3 times all through both daycare and primary school and she’s in yr 6 now.

I don’t think you can get rid of them for good but there are good products at the chemist

Unfortunately you can’t get rid of them forever, as if all parents aren’t treating then reinfestation is bound to happen. What I do is treat my daughters hair monthly (wether she has them or not) the. Daily spray her hair with a water spray bottle with a mixture of lavender, tea tree and water( lice hate that mixture).

lead lice are just about impossible to get rid 🙁

I’ve been treating my son with tea tree oil spray (after shaving it) and so far so good (but it IS the school holidays at the moment). I have written down some of the products (and links) that you have recommended and I’ll be well armed if nothing else if there’s another outbreak. Thanks again.

Talk to the school. The education department in each state has rules for this. Our school for the preps have a headline inspection each week. Any child that is infected is not to come back to school until they have a signed note they have been treated for the lice. If they keep getting infected they have to stay away until they come back with none!

Make sure your kids don’t share hats/jumpers, try to discourage hugging/selfies/wrestling. For girls make sure their hair is tied up.

There is a great one thats called wild child, I usually buy it from bolo and occasionally they have it at Coles. You leave it in over night, and kills every single one of them..it burns the nits and kills them including the eggs. It’s all natural products too. U leave it in overnight, I’m sure the cost is 17$ a bottle. There is two type one that u leave overnight and one that is about a 15min treatment! Make sure u get the one that’s over night, their hair will also smell good! Not like the orange medic. It actually doesn’t smell like nit treatment! It smell like a soft conditioner! The best way is to do it thought he day time and use a shower cap. I will promise an oath it will kill ALL of them. U won’t even have to use a comb to comb them out!
