  • Be confident. Everyone is feeling the same thing. Make sure they have everything they need.. high school can be harsh. When I went you had to have particular shoes or bag. Sometimes its easier to eliminate things that would cause anxiety like these items. I hope everything worked or works out!

  • I would recommend encouraging a honest relationship with your child.Start doing more grown-up type occasional treats/excursions to build your relationship so they feel free telling you everything .encourage attending local activities to expand there friend group so they feel more comfortable at the new school.

  • My granddaughter who starts high school next year has been anxious about going but fortunately the 2 High School’s that are available to her had orientation days where they spent a few class periods seeing what it’s like, she even got to prepare a snack in a home science class. She came away happy after going to both of the schools & now actually is excited to go next year.

  • As a former anxious teen starting at school, walk throughs and transition days are crucial before starting. Talk to them what they are going to experience, and be honest about the social aspect, let them know that other kids may try to get them to do drugs or smoke, let them know it’s ok to say no and they don’t have to feel pressured. Really prepare them for everything. let them know each class isn’t in the same class room and they will have different teachers. Get a map before hand and show them where the different classes are. I was always getting lost and it made my anxiety so much worse walking into class late that some times I just didn’t bother going to class because of it. I honestly wish that my mum spoke to me about all the things that went on in high school to fully prepare me because when I got there I was not ready for half of it.

  • Are there open days to see what it is like?
Does tour child have friends from primary school that are going to the same high school?

  • Cant help as my kids still are little.good luck
