Hello!

Hi, I’d love some gift ideas for my 7 year old daughter who inherits books, toys and clothes from her older sister. Thanks

  • Things for in the garden can be a nice investment. I ordered for my youngest recently a monkey bar for her BD, something my older kids didn’t have

  • Treats like a manicure, painting, pottery or craft class, sewing or craft kits.

  • I would say an experience is a great idea like going to a cafe(ie we have one around the corner where you can do pottery too) my daughter loves crafts so these kits never to astray. what about a secret diary, or have her do the kmart challenge as a little side gift(maybe google this if you havent heard of it!)

  • A new outfit, a new pair of shoes, outfits for her barbies, or an add on to something she likes now. From someone who inherited everything as lovely as it was having someone brand new just for you, was so special and personal

  • It’s always nice to have something that is just her own – clothing, craft, earrings/jewellery. A day out – we did horseriding for my 7 year old.

  • An item with her name on it would be very personal.

  • Take her just you and your daughter for a birthday date lunch and then she can pick what she likes to wear and a special little gift just from you

  • A special book with her name in it perhaps

  • You could buy her something with her name on it, necklace, hair brush etc.

  • An outing, like to the zoo or some other experience. Some jewellery

  • Maybe a special outfit that’s just hers, never been worn by her sister. A charm bracelet you can add to with charms that suit just her would be another special idea. I was the oldest in my immediate family, but I used to get a lot of hand-me-downs from both my cousins (boy and girl) before they hit their teens. So anything just mine was super special. You know what your girl is into and will come up with something amazing, I’m sure. <3

  • What does she like? Maybe giving her own craft station where she can be creative.

  • Hang out with her for a bit, figure out what she’s into and then surprise her by buying it for her.

  • Does she have special interests? Maybe you could focus on something she’s really interested in that her sister isn’t (and so she won’t inherit related items).

  • I have 3 daughters so feel this pain. My oldest is only 6 and I only have brothers so I always had everything of my own. My girls are all very different so I’m finding it easier to get them gifts that match their own personalities. Is there something your 7 year old likes her older sister/s don’t?
I try to buy my younger daughters personalised items that way they have something new of their own that hasn’t been handed down. Clothes are also something I don’t get to hand down so much now as my eldest is a total tom boy while my younger 2 love pretty dresses so maybe a new outfit for her?

  • When I was 7 all that I wanted was a specific barbie doll set (Barbie and baby Keiko). It was the only thing that I asked for…..and I didn’t get it.
I would honestly just ask your child what they want and then get that for them

  • Anything that’s brand new that she normally gets second hand. I would get her to write a list and go from there

  • You would know what she likes and buy something that she likes, I know some girls love clothes or new shoes let her pick what she likes for a change. It would be nice to take just her on a shopping trip maybe with some vouchers.

  • You’ve answered your own question. Buy her brand new the items she usually inherits from her sister. I’m sure she’d love those items you mentioned that her sister hasn’t already read, played with or worn.

  • As the younger sister that inherited everything. Anything that is hers first will be appreciated. Sometimes it’s nice to get something new, even if it’s clothing because you don’t want everything in your wardrobe to have once been your sisters.
