Hello!

My husband arrives home from work starving & starts grazing before dinner. He has just moved from an outdoor job to an office job and still has lunch around 11.30 each day because of his early start. By the time he gets home at 5pm he is starving. He packs quite a good lunch and enough snacks and drinks plenty of water but when he gets home he wants chips, cakes, biscuits etc…I have stopped buying packets of chips and biscuits to reduce these products from his diet. But he says he needs something. What do other Hubbies eat to satisfy their hunger until dinner is ready? Any ideas would be welcome!

  • vege sticks with hummus ?

  • maybe give him some small to snack on

  • there are some good comments here

  • Maybe a him must dip and some rice crackers to snack on

  • that smoothie idea is great

  • My hubby loves a smoothie

  • Sounds like he’s craving a sugar hit. What about ready to eat fruit salad. If its in the fridge and ready to go he might be happy to graze on it.

  • A milk or thick shake my husband drinks and it ties him over until dinner is ready

  • we have tea at 4:30 to avoid this .

  • can tea be made early? then he’ll be more likely snack healthy after tea

  • drink plenty of water to fill up

  • Cut some salad or fruit salad, some steamed veggies with dips or evening tea.

  • Making Dinner earlyer is the best as it also stops
    Kids from snacking too

  • could make dinner earlier, or do an antipasto platter or a plate of cheese and crackers to nibble on before dinner to enjoy together over a glass of wine or beer and talk about your day!

  • Start a new rule and have dinner earlier say 6 or 6.15 and make enough for seconds.

  • sounds like all of the mums suggest eating earlier, I always eat around 6 especially the kids who need to be fed and bathed and in bed by 8.30

  • Very similar scenario here too, I’ve started making dinner early so that hubby and the kids don’t snack too much before dinner, and so far so good 🙂

  • I have this same issue with my kids on the afternoon I’ve started making dinner earlier so eating by 5.30 instead of 6.30 it’s going down well , if this isn’t possible id make him up a sandwich or cheese and biscuits or something to tide him over and keep him away from junk

  • Have an early tea, there is no set rule that tea has to be a 6pm or 7pm. I know of families that have tea at 5pm it is great for kids too. Otherwise make him some fruit salads, carrot and dip, savory muffin or get him to help cook tea. That way he will be busy and less likely to sit and eat. Also have an early tea and go for a walk after tea while it is still llight.

  • Can you have dinner ready early for that time, when he gets home? That is my best suggestion. Or make him a sandwich or something to tide him over ?
