Hello!

Has anyone ever hired a skip for rubbish? Is it worth the money?

  • Getting a skip can be pricey if you just look at the price. Keep in mind of whether you have the means to dispose of things without using one. Do you have access to transport of items? Is the tip local? How many trips will you need to make to the tip? What is the price per visit? How much time will it take you to load/unload and travel to and from the tip?

  • definitely shop around for the best deal and make sure you have enough tp fill it to make it worth while, or go halves with a neighbour.

  • My daughter did when she moved into a house, just for the first month to keep the rubbish under control

  • If you can get rid of things bit by bit in as part of your standard rubbish collection then do so. Also inquire with your local council about kerbside rubbish collection. Some councils “give you free collections” (basically already charge you for it as part of your rates)

  • Yep, a few times. Great thing to do. Bad things – others put stuff in your skip, and you may need Council approval if not on private property.

  • If you are having big renovations , it is better to as the local tip wont take building materials etc . If you just have general rubbish , you can take it to the tip yourself , or call in for them to pick it up like some councils offer . Just enquire first as they are getting fussy with the environment etc ..

  • Yep, whenever we have a big clean up, we hire one. It’s so much easier then running to the tip all the time, and cheaper, plus for the bigger stuff that won’t fit in your car. Last time we had one, it cost $300 and it was here fir 2 weeks. Which meant we didn’t have to rush things

  • it seems like a good idea to me. it will get the bulky items out and save many trips to the dump. Saves you time as well.

  • Yes it was worth it I don’t drive so when. I moved it was great.

  • Thanks for the good answers – so helpful! Need to help someone with a big moving clean up.

  • My neighbour hires it regularly and is very happy with the service.

  • We have hired one a few times and we had one just the other day! We had a medium sized one for $139 from Wednesday to Saturday as we had carpet to get rid of, it was also a good chance to have a quick de-clutter!

  • Skips are fantastic for cleaning up around the home. We have done several over the years and loved the idea of it being dropped off and picked up with no hassles. Skips range in sizes so therefore prices range in sizes. If you do get a skip make sure you ask how long you can have it for as I once I forgot to ask and they expected it to be collected the following day.

  • We have hired them a few times when doing massive garden clean outs and I think they are completely worth it. If you’re only throwing away garden stuff it’s between $100-200 to get it and it just makes life so much easier because everything goes in there to clean up as you’re pulling out weeds and plants instead of having to figure out how you’re going to haul it all away.
We’re actually getting ready to have out kitchen redone and I’m already thinking that we’ll get a skip for that as well, that way everything gets chucked in and taken away without a second thought. I’d highly recommend it.

  • Does anyone know the cost of skips?

  • yes they are if you have a lot of rubbish that u need to clear away they are perfect… we hired one when we were moving.. got rid of so much, and stated a new life clutter free’
