Hello!

My partner and I have been trying for number 2 since the start of the year, and I have only had one period for this whole time at the end or March start of April. I have had a blood test to check for pregnancy but it came back negative. I was regular beforehand and always had a 28 day cycle for as long as I can remember. My question is has anyone else experienced this and why was it caused, they are doing further testing on me to see whats going on. Or has anyone ever experienced a false negative blood test?

  • Good that you have it tested to see what’s going on.
    I was always very irregular

  • My periods have always been very irregular. I’ve seen so many doctors and had so many tests done, and the best reason I was given was that I’m very sensitive to stress and hormone levels which can easily throw my cycle out.

  • Ask the doctor to check your hormone levels. I was told that as we get older , our bodies change and get ready for menopause from age 40’s and probably by that time you will know it. Also if you are just off the contraceptive pill , it might affect it too. Hopefully the doctor can do thorough tests to determine a cause .

  • I’ve experienced this once. My periods were always irregular. One time they just stopped. For over 8 weeks, I thought I was pregnant, but I wasn’t. It ended up kicking off again not long after

  • Go on a lovely holiday, totally relax, get lots of kisses and who knows – I wish you all the best x

  • Mine have always been super irregular but never just stopped, accept when I was pregnant..

  • Hi,
Just wanted to see how you went with getting your period back.
    Hope all is well..

  • Definitely have it investigated thoroughly as usually no ovulation equals no period and you will want to address it asap if you want to continue your family. Health problems affecting hormones, diet, stress etc as already mentioned by others here are possible but only your doctor will be able to tell you for sure. Good luck.

  • Sorry cant help with this good luck.

  • Stress can stop them and as for not eating properly that may affect them and if your anorexic or underweight it does, I’d consult a doctor, mine are stopping them coming back months and months later.

  • As you haven’t said how old your first child is, it’s hard to hazard a guess about hormone levels and other things that could affect a blood test. I’d definitely continue with the doctor and further tests, if only for your peace of mind. Good luck!

  • I’d also consult a doctor, your OB/GYN should be able to give you more of an educated opinion…

  • Ive had pretty scanty periods all my life, as usual its best you consult your gp… Hard to give health advice because it might lead you to postpone seeing a professional… though some things to consider are;
    1) Are you breastfeeding? if so hormones play a big role in affecting your period
    2) Polycystic ovaries
    3) haemochromotosis
    4) your age
If you are able to ask your mum more about her experiences and what age she experienced menopause etc.
Chances are your hormones are adjusting post baby. Check with your gp. and take my comment with a grain of salt…
Having said that, i have PCS, periods 6-9 months pretty much all my life, and haemochromotosis which i just found out about…
I stopped the pill… because my period frequency went nuts and came every week! then a few days later got pregnant with our first to come in Oct! =)
    Hope this helps.
