I never did one as I’ve no questions about my ancestry, but I can imagine when you do have questions about you ancestry you would like to do it

I did one through ancestry.com.au and got some answers I was seeking – so it was a great tool for me to fill in a few gaps. I can understand why some people are hesitant.

I had mine done, My husband’s siblings and children too. So many matches to help with my family tree and even helped a new relative as to where he connected into our family (He wasn’t previously sure of his father). It’s a wonderful tool.

We gifted my dad and FIL one for Christmas a couple of years ago through ancestry.com.
It came back with where they were from but nothing about health care choices etc.
My dad has managed to link up with some other greater family members via ancestry.com via its email function (but that is voluntary).
I haven’t heard much about my FIL’s one but I believe he knew most of his historical background already.

I haven’t and am not interested. Companies that do this have been caught in the past seeling the information about people’s DNA. My mother has done it though a few years back and she found it quite interesting getting some more of the family history information. Seems a bit weird to do for diet and exercise reasons. You could try keeping a food diary and seeing if there is anything standing out as a trigger for whatever you are experiencing eg. sugar, dairy, wheat, artifical colours. If you need some excercise inspiration try looking up some videos on youtube! Beginner yoga, or calithenics (body weight exercises) might be a good place to start if you have no equipment or free weights.

I have been doing family history research for over 20 years. To date, I have not done a DNA for ancestry, curious though. But, hesitant, I don’t like the idea that some of them keep your DNA after the test is done. Might look at the fine print again, if it has changed, I’d almost jump in and do an Ancestry one.

My husband got one given to him a couple of Christmases ago but he hasn’t gone ahead and done it yet as he isn’t sure what they are going to do with the sample/info later.
All of his sisters have done it and found nationalities in their blood they never knew ran in the family…

My mum loves it has found out all sorts of interesting things about our family and has been a great source of enjoyment.

Well I’m going to go ahead with one! I’ve decided that the ancestry and health one is best, where you get information on your history (which may help connect with distant relatives, who knows) and also for health… (which I’m most curious about although have already discovered from conventional medicine things like having the gene for iron overload doesn’t necessarily mean you get overload) the data is given to you not held. it also opens up other avenues of exploration where I understand you can send your raw data off (once you’ve had that basic test) and other vendors can look for other things, and some are free. I’m not too sure I’m fussed about my dna being stored somewhere. I leave hair etc. everywhere and someone could take a sample and get it done without me even knowing… so what? they have one sequencing/analysis of my dna. You could also get my fingerprints off the glass in the cafe but I’m not too worried about being framed for a crime either. I’ll post more in due course (once I’ve learned my lessons!)

I’ve never had one. I think DNA tests sound like they’d be full of information we would otherwise not know about, but very personal. How do you know that your DNA is being looked after and not for malace? Would you be happy for third parties to access your information and possibly contact you or pass your information on further.
Unless there was an absolute necessary reason to get a DNA test, I would not.

I had one very specific test done for a medical reason. I wouldn’t touch the commercial ones. They’re not always accurate, and they do all sorts of things with your data that you might not realise.

I had one done for ancestry. My mum wanted us all to get one it was interesting to see similarities with everyone and nationality break-down.

My boss at work also did one and discovered he had a sister (his mum gave up for adoption)
unfortunately his mum had already passed away. but he is now building a relationship with his sister.

My friend has done an ancestry one and told me to try it. She said its very interesting to see the results of where you originate from. Personally I think its super expensive because hers told her what she already knew. The health one seems pretty cool. I’d love to hear more if someones done one of those.

A friend at work got her’s done, and she found it a good experience. She said that she took the swab, and sent it back to them, and they were able to tell the % of what nationality break down. She was also able to find relatives that she didnt know she had.

No I have not either but am very interested in it I think I would be too scared to do it actually in case something bad comes up
