Hello!

I’m at the end of my first trimester and absolutely craving anything salty, fried and cheesy. Does anyone have some recommendations or know of good recipes or websites with healthy alternatives to all the bad stuff you crave during pregnancy, I really just want cheeseburgers and chips all the time.

  • I feel bad saying this but if it’s only during this time that you are wanting to eat like this then do it. Your body is changing and probably going through a rough time with all of the changes so just treat yourself.
In saying that, just be mindful of portion control – maybe go for a mini burger like a slider rather than a full sized cheeseburger that way you still get the best of both worlds.
My first baby i was so wary with what I ate. Now she is super picky and never wants to eat, she’s like a stick!
Baby number 2 I just ate whatever I wanted including junk food and he eats practically everything you give him apart from green peas. I don’t know if this has anything to do with what I ate during pregnancy but if it’s anything to go by then not limiting yourself can maybe give your little one a healthy appetite when they finally enter the world!

  • I know this is kinda absurd but if you invest on an air fryer, you can fry those chips and chicken and spring rolls to crisp without the oil. You can use it for the whole family even after you have finished your cravings. =)

I loved salty foods as well. I just drank as much water as I can and ate fruits as well to balance.

  • I agree with preparing snacks in advance. How are you going with the cravings?

  • Slice up apples, bananas, oranges, carrots & pack them in small airtight containers. When a craving kicks in they’re there & ready to go.
Strawberries dipped in a small amount of chocolate is a nice treat as well.
Don’t forget all the vitamins you will get from fresh fruit.
Much more worthwhile than some yucky fried food.

  • I was tHe same .. Craved salt and vinegar anything .. But tried not to over do it .. And snack on healthier options before I knew it cravings had gone

  • I was lucky and didn’t get cravings for stuff like this. I like one of the suggestions for homemade popcorn.

I have read that if you have cravings, it is supposed to indicate a deficiency in what you’re eating.

  • Have you tried halloumi before? It’s my current obsession. It’s a solid cheese that you can pan fry or grill etc and is fantastic in salads and lots of other things (I’ve just been frying up a few pieces and eating them ;)

  • try the alternative. try popcorn etc

  • I craved healthy foods! Like with all foods – have some but in moderation.

  • I am in my second trimester at the moment. First pregnancy I was sick every day, this time only in the first so far. With the constant ravenous hunger from the first trimester, its not good if you dont have healthy snacks to eat as otherwise its easy take out or junk food. I couldnt eat nuts and dried fruit, food aversions. But vegetable chips from the supermarket are low fat, natural, salty and ready when you need it. Also crackers, like Jatz. Anything seasoned was too much for me. Just plain salt. I also kept baking potatoes or making fritters with peas and eating them…. loaded with salt, great for what I wanted but so not healthy… Good luck :)

  • So the burgers are kind of healthy try cooking your own but put some greens and tomatoes in them to make them a little healthier. Seriously its good to hear you are craving meat its one thing i couldnt stand the smell of when pregnant or even eat. Enjoy the cravings as its your body asking for something it either wants or needs. Its not very often you get the excuse of craving something. If you want chips try air frying them to make that healthier as well. I found some good recipes in some of the pregnacy books for snacks, muffins etc.

  • Try having salted mixed nuts or dried fruit

  • I agree with making your own, to make a healthir version

  • I made sure that I are every few hours so that I was not hungry, I found it easier to deal with my cravings that way. I had plenty of fesh food in the fridge. Nuts or fruit for snacks, organic Muslie for breakfast, lunch was leftovers from dinner, and dinner was home cooked and always with veges.

  • I was mad for steamed dim sims with soy sauce – they are a good alternative to junk food I think:) You will still get that salt fix from the soy sauce too. All the best x

  • Cravings pass, they’re ok to have, splurge while pregnant……it won’t hurt. All I could eat without fear of vomiting was salt and vinegar chips for the first 4 months of my first pregnancy. It passed and I made up for it with lots of fruit and veggies

  • Make your own! That way you can make it healthy but don’t worry about giving in and enjoying a burger and chips from your favorite fast food place every now and then. We have all done it. It’s about moderation. I would do anything to have a burger right now lol.
