Hello!

My hubby used to travel for work but now is stationed finally back at home, our middle child who is nearly 7 is having a hard time adjusting. We have reassured him dad is home for good, we have kept same routines. Don’t know what else to do his behaviour is shocking, mood swings, stomping off tantrums please help.

  • It will take him a while to adjust, and a lot of it will be attention seeking. Ignoring it is the best way to stop it, as each time he gets attention for behaving badly encourages him to do it again

  • Yeah think alot may be age related, as friends kids at same age r acting up too, we r persiaviting, just struggling as I’ve just had shoulder surgery so I’m frustrated not being able to do much, feeling useless, hard rely on everyone else, he’s been a good help but the outburst are killing me. Thanks for all the great advice.

  • It might actually just be hormones. When we have girls we are expecting the hormonal phase. No one tells you that boys have them too! My boys have had them at 4-5, 7-9 and now I am waiting for them to become teenagers! I bought my boys a punching bag so whenthey

  • He is used to being the man of the house. give him time to adjust to someone else taking mums attention

  • He is probably just not used to having him home more than going off again, after time he will get used to it.

  • just give him a bit of time to get used to it :)

  • Thanks we are trying to keep as much the same as possible, finally dads getting to see his footy games that he missed out on so much, he told me yesterday I can’t disapline him as I’m not the dad, so will leave it to dad I think, it’s been a long 7 years with him travelling and only home 3 days a month now to him home every night it’s great.

  • I think it will just take time for him to adjust to have his dad back in the house all the time.
Children get used to their own set ways and do take a while to get used to new things happening.
Good luck I’m sure it will all come good for you soon.

  • It will take him time to adjust, but he will get used to it. Keep his punishments exactly the same as when Dad was away so he doesn’t feel picked on, but be consistent. His dad belongs in his own home and your son just needs time to get used to things. Perhaps they need some father son time or activities. Good luck.
