Hello!

Does anyone know exactly how Kris Kringle is meant to work?

  • You buy a gift anonomously for someone up to a certain dollar amount

  • Isn’t that where there’s a group of you (usually workmates) and they have Kris Kringle at Christmas time. I’ve known it to involve everyone’s name being put in a hat, everyone draws a name out and that’s who you buy for. There’s usually a spending limit set too. Don’t do what one if my colleagues did, she must’ve gone through her cupboards, pulled out stuff that was past its use by and gave that as a gift

  • I do love Secret Santa! Always so much fun!

  • you select a name and keep it secret, buy a present for the allocated amount and then put under tree or collection area for the person to open.

  • As our family has grown up, my parents and my siblings do it now rather than buying everyone a present. Each person picks one name out of a hat and there is a $100 limit. That way everyone gets something they want because they make a list of suggestions of gifts they’d like to receive to that value. Easy

  • Some great answers! We call it Secret Santa and it is fun; we have a price limit.

  • what is kris krinle?

  • I run the Kris Kringle at work and also in my family.
Basically everyones names are written on an individual piece of paper and placed in a hat/bag/envelope.
A list of everyones name (in alphabetical order is easiest) is made with a space next to it.
A name is drawn out it is written next to the first name, then second and go down the list.
If anyones name is drawn out for themselves their name goes back into the hat, bag or envelope.
Choose a limit for the present and set a date to exchange gifts.
I find if 1 person organises and keeps track of who has whom it’s easier to keep anonymous.
If you have access to email you can also get and give advice on who may or may not want certain things. the don’t want list is usually shorter. and forward the email onto the person who has each person.
Hopefully this makes sense and good luck !

  • oh so just secret santa. great answers ladies !

  • As Tam has said above, we call it Secret Santa too. We do it for the adults in the family and have a set budget that everyone agrees on, and pick names out of a hat in November.

  • I have always called them ‘secret santa’ but same principle. Put the names of every one participating in a hat, everyone draws a name, who they draw is who they buy for. Set a spending limit that everyone sticks to and write from Kris Kringle instead of your name when giving the present.

  • The Kris Kringles I have been part of you are randomly given one person to buy for and usually an agreed amount is spent, then at your function or on Christmas Day presents are handed out. Normally the recipient doesn’t find out who has given them the gift.

  • I have done a KK this year with my immediate family and also with my mothers group.
We all got together and puts names in a hat and we all pulled out a name each and then agreed on a value to spend.
We found it to be so much cheaper especially with my family, we chose to spend $100 and that’s pretty good considering that is all you have to spend!

  • My daughter runs a kris kringle among her friends every year. Prior to Christmas they get together and draw a name from a hat each. Them they buy a present to an agreed value for that person. They then exchange pressies at their Christmas eve eve party. Works really well and they all enjoy it.

  • It depends on how you understand it, in many parts of the world Kris Kringle is what we know as Santa, so Kris Kringle will deliver a present on christmas eve. Many parts of the world now use Kris Kringle as a concept of gift giving within a group of people (work place or extended family). Usually you draw out a name and secretly buy the present for that person. (Instead of buying for all people) set the money limit and how you want the gift given….(place your gift under the tree or hand personally to the person)

  • We do kris kringle with our family…
    This is what we do.
We draw a name from a hat and we purchase a gift for that person. That way we only have to buy one gift. We do this amongst adults so it is not really from santa ha ha

  • do you mean santa?
coz if you do its different in every house.
santa buys 1 big present for our little one and stuffs the stocking with lollies or whatnot.
we usually find out what she’s asking santa for by either her talking about it her writing a letter or when she gets her santa photo taken. we choose 1 thing off her list of things she wants.
we buy any other presents we would like for her
