My 6 year old eats super slowly as well……. especially if he’s not enjoying something (he can polish a bowl of ice cream off in about 20 seconds) I honestly don’t know what the answer is, and it does get super frustrating but I’m pretty sure they will grow out of it…..eventually :/
It really would help to know what age your daughter is. If being distracted from eating, try to limit distractions. Is the tv on? Turn it off. etc. Otherwise you could use a visual chart showing meals, ie breakfast lunch dinner, and after each meal an activity which your daughter enjoys. Then she can look forward to her activity and you can explain to her that when the meal is finished she will have activity time. This visual reminder may keep her focused on eating her meal so she can get to activity time.
Eating slow is actually quite good! It allows you to chew food and get nutrition from it; there is time spent together that means you can talk or just enjoy being alone having a quiet space with no other demands other than nourishing yourself. On those occasions that it causes a problem – eg she doesn’t get the nutrition she needs at school/kindy because she is too slow.. or you run late because of her….. perhaps you can work out individual solutions that help with that situation (like starting earlier or talking to the teachers and allowing her to nibble in class)
How old is she? It’s just a simple fact that kids will eat slower then adults. My grandson starts eating before all of us and is still eating when we are finished. Don’t stress it, at least she’s eating
Children and adults all eat at different rates. In our household some are quick and some are slow to eat, the most important thing is to chew all food well.
