Hello!

I have a 1 1/2 year old that is a very fussy eater and mostly likes eating sloppy food, like anything with noodles or pasta, any suggestions accepted

  • We do, touch, taste, eat, so over a few nights we work with touching it, putting it in his mouth but not forcing to eat it. And then we offer rewards ie, if you have one mouth full of xxx you get dessert tongiht. my mr3 is fussy but this is slowly working!

  • I know it’s frustrating coming from myself who has a fussy toddler and she’s now 3.

I just introduce food to her slowly. I tell her that if she does not like the looks of a new food, she still has to taste it still but she can spit it out (at home, properly). She has learned what she likes and does not like through that. For example, she didn’t like the look of a cheese stick, so I told her to just taste. She took a small bite and loved it.

She still has so many to try. She mainly likes soup (I can put whatever in the soup and she will eat it but If i give her a carrot to eat, she will not). I think it depends on what texture they like too.

  • A gentle approach is to serve up what they would normally eat but with a small serve of something new.

  • Kids always go through fussy stages, for more veges maybe blend them up then mix with pasta or what I do for my kids is make a stew with lots of veges cut up small with pasta added.

  • Apparently it is common for kids to refuse foods – they all go through a fussy phase. I’ve read speech therapist and dietitian advice which suggested to keep plodding along and offering lots of different tastes, textures and colours of foods along with the foods they already do enjoy. Good luck!

  • try something and if he refuses, offer it again to him in a week or so. he will get used to all these new flavours and work out what he likes but it is ok. kids do this lol.

  • Keep presenting new foods, especially if you are eating the same, or other children. They will try if their own accord in time, provided the option is there. Don’t pressure the and don’t make s fuss.
