Hello!

They both don’t want to help, so they do a bad job of it and run off to their room. They are aged 4 and 6.

  • I agree with becstalou. Make them do it again till it’s done right. They’ll soon learn to do it right the first time.

  • I don’t let them watch any tv till they pack up!! Lol

  • If you keep getting them to do it and come back and help unless it’s done to the standard you want they will hopefully learn to put in an effort the first time.

  • I agree with the other comment. Make it fun and also be consistent. Kids will get away with things if we let them, if they know we will just call them back and make them do it again, they will soon learn!

  • 1. Make it into a game, who can get their plate and fork to the sink first
    2. Read a book about being helpful. There a series of books called “why should I?” They have a title called Why should I help? You could probably pick it up at the library
    3. Set up a table cleaning chart, each night a different family member has to clear the table
    4. When they do a bad job and run off to their room, call them back and make them do it again! They will eventually learn to do it properly the first time! That’s how I’m battling the no running in the house rule. If my kids run for anything other than an emergency or toilet, they have to walk back to where they ran from and walk again! It takes them twice as long to get to where they were rushing off to. Mine are 3 and 5.

    Be consistent. And good luck!
