Try and get it completely dry before you store it in the fridge. I used to put paper towel under it but I was given a Tupperware veggie storer and the lettuce lasts so much longer than the old way I prepared it.
I wash mine as I use it. When I get it home, it chop of the end bit and take off the outer bad layers. I then wrap it in tinfoil and place in veg draw in fridge. I take what I need off and rinse and wrap it back up again. Has never failed me.
I also just wash it just before i use it and let it drain for a few minutes in a strainer.I also only wash as much as i am going to use saves on wastage.
