Hello!

Hi MoM, I’m having a really hard time getting my 4 and 2 year olds to eat any vegies. I’ve offered them raw and cooked but they flatly refuse. They love fruit but vegies have me stumped. Can you please ask the other mums for some advice for me? How do you get kids to eat vegies?

  • Oh and growing veggies with them is also a fantastic way to get them to eat them. Just choose a pot or plant that is theirs, talk about how they all grow, even watch dirtgirl maybe sometimes. But seeing their own plants grow has helped my boys love their veggies

  • I have that problem with my 2yo. Will eat a raw carrot depending on the day

  • Hiding them is a great idea, there’s even recipes for sweet cakes using veggies. My favourites are zucchini and chocolate, pumpkin, and carrot. There’s also chickpea chocolate biscuits. I do the same as the other ladies with sauces and soups, just blend or finely chop whatever veggies I have. I even add them to scrambled eggs

  • I bought a book called veggie smugglers, there are some great family recipes in there that are delicious

  • I grate carrot and zuchinni and put it in quiche! My daughter has no idea! LOL

  • Check out some books called Vegie Smugglers Pt 1 and 2, there are loads of great recipes that you can hide vegies in. I cook from one of these books most nights.

  • Try smuggling them into foods they like, meat loaf, meat balls , spaghetti bol, Shepard’s pie, etc…grate the vegies or process them and add…they won’t know that they are eating them…this works with big folk aswel…

  • Don’t worry it may not happen overnight but it will happen

  • My children are the same age, they don’t like mash but we hide the vege in bolognese or noodle stir fry (the vege is in the sauce) seems to help.

  • Try hiding them in meals or in freshly squeezed juices, they’ll never know they are eating them

  • Process carrot and celery into your spaghetti bol sauce. Everyone loves my spaghetti bol

  • My kids love my ‘pumpkin soup’ which consists of chicken all different veggies and noodles all blended up in the blender 🙂

  • i use to mix them all together with gravy and call it yum yum u more than likely have tried this , but my kids use to look for yum yum when we went shopping and got all upset once old enough to work it out what it was ,,

  • Disguise in other foods or make them into vege nuggets ( cook, mash and crumb them) then they put tomato sauce on and its all good! 🙂 well sometimes…

  • If i do mash potato, I do it with cauliflower and also sweet potato. Peel a zucchini and throw that in too. They don’t know the difference!!
