  • Being able to sit upright and being interested in food. At least 6 months of age is the recommendation now

  • I guess your little one should be able to sit upright with minimal support, hold their head upright, lose their tongue thrust reflex, show interest in food and putting things into their mouth a lot

  • I did baby led weaning with all my bubs and as typical mum I am usually holding bub while I am eating. If bub was showing interest like opening his mouth and chewing that was a que that they were ready. I always wait until 6 months though that is my personal preference

  • Definitely not earlier than 6 months! There is actual danger to starting beforehand and can cause many gut issues. Bub needs to be able to sit unassisted (this includes without aid of a chair), have developed pincer grip, lost tongue thrust reflex. Always offer breastmilk or formula first as this should be their main source of nutrition before 1 years old.

  • When they start taking interest in your food and can sit up unaided. We did baby led weaning with both my children and they ate what we ate.

  • At around 6 months but not before 4 months. Able to sit up, lost tongue thrust reflex, showing interest and trying to grab your food.

  • Not before 6 months.
    Able to support themselves sitting.
and they show an interest in your food.
    :)

  • Able to sit upright in a chair without toppling over, to avoid chocking. Showing interest when you eat and not pushing their tongue reflex out when food goes in

  • From about 4 months you can start letting them taste some of your food, eg vegetables and fruit. They do need to be able to have good head and neck control. But as others have said, they start taking interest in your food.

  • We started my son around 4.5 months on iron fortified rice cereal due to his readiness. Reaching out for our food. Staring at us eating. He was able to sit up unassisted in a high chair and hold his head well. He lost his tongue thrust which they have from newborn. So we just started putting things like really soft steamed carrots and potato/sweet potato sticks and brocolli on his tray to play with. He would only eat about 1 teaspoon of rice cereal and it really was just for the familiarity of it rather than sustenance. He actually started eating food properly closer to 6 months. I would say baby will generally guide you when they are ready but definitely no earlier than 4 months and closer to the 5/6 month mark. WHO guidelines say 6 months but doctors in Australia seem to be saying slightly earlier from an allergy perspective. Best to seek guidance from your MCHN and GP/paediatrician. My MCHN has said anytime from over 4 months once they can hold their head steadily without help sitting upright. However, to not force baby to “eat” food until they let you know that they are ready by willing trying to take the spoon to guide to their mouth. There’s lots of variety out there so be careful what you google and only use trusted sites – raising children network is recommended to me.

  • They will reached out to your plate.

  • I’ve always started my babes on solids when they are 6 months, able to support their necks well and are showing interest towards me eating like reaching for my food or mimicking me chewing.

  • There are plenty articles about it…trust your guts and no ealier than 6 months
