I think you can tell by how the child behaves at pre-school. Does the child get along well with other children? Are they able to follow the teacher’s instructions? Are they eager to learn new things?
I think sometimes it is when they seem to need a lot more to keep them occupied. I think if they are the right age, and know how to use a toilet, then the rest will take care of itself at school. If they haven’t been taught how to count, don’t worry, they will pick that up very fast-my son could count to 3 and sometimes 4, he did not know the alphabet, and as soon as he started prep he learnt them really fast.
To prepare your child do lots of exercises like alphabet, read stories and ask sone basic comprehension to see if he/ she understands. I knew my son was ready with the questions he would ask. My childcare also told me that he was fine for prep
Reading through all these answers now as I’m in the same boat. Lots of signs point to my daughter being ready for school but I’m a little worried that she can’t write her name yet, and whenever I try to teach her she just doesn’t seem interested.
