I gave birth to my bub in the birthing suite shower, then after having the first cuddle etc. on the floor of the shower, I got helped up and in to the bed. While they were doing the weight and vit k injections I got a shot in my leg to help the placenta out. It came out within 5 minutes I reckon. It felt really weird and I was glad when it was out to be honest!! The dr. pulled on the cord that was attached and helped guide it out.
No one prepared me for the placenta. I was induced twice after my first was out. While she was whisked away to NICU being a premmie, I had the midwife trying to get the placenta to come out. The contractions were painful and I had a fair bit of blood loss happening. I was in surgery within 15 mins to have it removed.
My second baby, I was induced once, on the 2nd contraction, a tiny tug from the midwife and it was out. I barely felt it, just a bit uncomfortable, even the contractions weren’t painful. But I was also 39w.
So not only is everyone different, but each birth is different.
Within 5 minutes with my first. Didn’t detach with my second & had to get into surgery to get it removed. Had a c-section with my third, so the doctors took it all out whilst I was trying hard not to throw up…
My first took about 20-30 minutes I’m pretty sure, and second baby didn’t come out because she was premmie do had to go into theatre to get it manually removed and my last baby came out I reckon within 10 minutes
They recommend you have the injection (usually syntocinon) to help expel the placenta quicker. That way they can try and minimise blood loss. It usually takes 5-30 mins but both of mine were within the 5 mins.
It doesn’t take long it all. For both my sons it happened while I was giving them their first cuddles. My Obst kinda just tugged it out. It felt uncomfortable, but not at all painful.
Mine was about 10 minutes after the birth of my son and was really quick and easy to get out. It felt very strange though. It wasn’t painful at all. I know some women have horror stories of it not detaching properly but try not to stress. Its usually the bit where you’re so distracted by your new baby you barely even notice it happening.
