Whatever you can afford
It’s easy to get sucked in and spend wayyy more because other people go all out.
These days places like Kmart have awesome stuff for decorations and prizes etc. which is affordable so you get more bang for your buck.
But personally I think a couple hundred dollars would cover you? Totally depends how much you want to do.
What I often do for parties is to ask guests to help out. Eg you bring a salad, you bring a cob loaf etc. That way it frees up more money and tine for me to do things.
I’ve done a few baby shower and its easy to go out of budget. My budget was always 100 to 150 bucks, all decorations/ prizes for games I got from reject shop or similar, even op shops sell some pretty cool stuff for prizes. Food served was simple finger foods such as curried egg sandwiches, pies n sausage rolls and a few sweet cakes.
Plan the event which includes a budget and adhere to the budget.
A morning or afternoon event will require less food and drink than a lunch or dinner event.
I’ve no idea, I never organised one. But I suppose it’s like with a BD party, you decide how much you want to spend. I’ve organised BD parties way below the $100
You can do a lot of DIY things for a baby shower, (ie games, prizes etc) You can do one for about $200. You can also save on costs by getting people to bring a plate of nibbles to further stretch out the foods.
I know one Mum that she and her Matron at the wedding shared the cost. One of the games was they bought some baby bottles, sterilised them and put some water in each one. Easch guest had to drink at least some of the water. I’m glad I didn’t have to drink too much of it. As it was I was squeezing the bottle which didn’t help much.
I think it’s up to how much you want to spend. I think that sometimes people feel the pressure to spend too much on these things. Like a wedding, it’s not about how much you spend.
I can’t remember how much I’ve spent on baby showers. I think no more then $200 including food, decorations & stuff for games. Try not to look on pinterest for ideas otherwise you will want to spend so much more!!! haha Ask for help from their family to pay for it. Otherwise you could charge guests a small amount to help you with costs.
