Hello!

My girls have often nose bleeds, and I just wanted to know if there are hacks to remove blood stains from bedsheets? I’ve tried bleach, but it doesn’t seem to get rid of the entire stain

  • My friend works in a nursing home where they often get blood stains on the bed sheets. They use the Clear Windex. Clear Windex can be used to remove blood stains from washable, non-silk fabrics. This also works on Carpets and rugs and clothing. I have used this by spraying after wiping off blood and using cold water cloth to rub off with and this works well.

  • (I can’t find anywhere other than TikTok and articles that refer to TikTok that say hot water washes are a myth. I’d love to know for sure if it’s fact or fiction)

  • Hot water setting stains is a proven myth. I use Vanish for a soak as soon as possible after the issue then wash in the hottest wash the material will handle. Ends up like the stain never happened. If you want science based advice on laundry cleaning, check out Clean Cloth Nappies (not just for nappies! A life saver for all laundry challenges).

  • Rinse in cold water and then, while wet, cover the stain with napisan powder, or the like. Rub it in. Let it soak overnight.

  • Rinse them in cold water ASAP, and then use sunlight laundry soap on them.

  • Always cold water, never warm. After that, a good soak in some good quality strong soap always works for me – I also sometimes try to lightly scrub off the blood stains.

  • Definitely first rinse it with cold water ! Sponge the stain with hydrogen peroxide or rub bar soap (I like Sun light block soap) into the stain and scrub by hand in cold water. Apply laundry pre-treater or rub in liquid laundry detergent, and wash as usual. If your sheets are white you could use a fabric-safe bleach in the washing machine

  • We always soak sheets and other items in a good stain remover for quite a while and then repeat the process. It can take a few attempts to remove stains from sheets and other items. We do scrub the area with the most staining for a deeper stain removal process.

  • I always use a stain remover and then a couple of hours later soak in cold water – sometimes I have had to add salt to the cold water and then washed as normal. Of course, I do hang my sheets outside on my clothesline in the sun and find that this is the final effort the sheets require to come back to their original pristine value.

  • you can use Hydrogen Peroxide, Woolworths have them. If the stain persists, you can apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide (3%) directly to the stain. Let it bubble for a few minutes, then blot with a clean cloth. or detol also works wonder. just scrap a bit over on it

  • This is a great question as I have the same issue with my daughter at times. I find spraying it with a stain remover and letting it soak for a bit before putting on the washing machine to work most times however there have been times when it hasn’t come out. Be great to hear everyone’s ideas on this one.

  • First step is rinsing with cold water, never warm or hot. Warm water will cook the protein in blood and set the stain. Hydrogen peroxide is amazing at blood stain removal. It does have a bleaching effect, so be mindful on colours. If you need to remove without bleaching, I find vanish powder mixed into a paste and rubbing works well. If it’s still there after a wash, spray remover like the di-san aldi brand or vanish spray are great. Just don’t throw it in the dryer until the stain is gone.
