Hello!

Whenever I’m run down I always seem to get a stye, I’ve heard that rubbing gold works but I’m wondering if this is a old wives tale as I have tried to no avail. Hoping you mums can suggest something.

  • I know people who it has worked for but I think it needs to be like 24k gold. Only thing I know myself is a warm compress normally draws the puss to surface so hopefully that helps?

  • keep hands/fingers away from area no make up/cosmetics/pollution
    dab with hot water
wash face with warm water no soap
    think of changing your diet

  • I get cysts or styes when I am very stressed and also at the most inconvenient times. Rubbing or touching them will case infection , so I would go to the doctors to get a cream or over the counter pharmacy . I did hear pressing with a clean cloth with hot water helps but never tried it .

  • If you’ve tried gold rubbing on style and it didn’t go, I’m guessing it’s an old wife’s tale. I always thought regular bathing in warm soapy water was the thing to do. That’s what my mum did anyway

  • I tried that once and it did not work for me. I went to the doctor and he prescribed some suitable eye ointment. I thought using a gold ring was an old wives tale! lol!

  • Interesting tips, hope they work! I wouldn’t use a pin in case it got infected.

  • Thank you mums for your help, they are irritable & yes, I think I’m rather run down which may have caused it.

  • I get them often and yes a true gold ring (not plated) does the job every time

  • Definitely do not rub the stye. Apply a hot compress on the stye and this will draw out the pus. Do not prick the stye as it can spread infection to other tissue and you need to be very careful with your eyes.

  • i get them every now and then normally when i am run down. my gold wedding ring works wonders but dont touch the stye with anything else and dont try to squeeze it or anything.

  • no,for a stye you need heat to draw it out.a washer or cloth of any kind, use water at the hottest that area can stand it and repeat, you need to bring the crap to the surface, and then you pop a pin in to break the skin and don’t squeeze,it will be forced out by the pressure built up by the heat.if the crap actually goes into the eye,it will be spread arond, look up and use a corner of your cloth to get in between your eye and the lid and wipe it gently away.

  • Yes I find that it does work really well

  • yeah i hope you are finding these tips helpful!

  • I have had these in the past and I apply a warm compress to the stye. I place a bowl of warm/hot salted water and clean washer to the eye. I find that this draws out the infection on a day or so.

  • I have never heard of this one, I was always told to bathe the eye in lightly salted boiled water as you do not want to introduce any infections, I know doctors can drain them as it apparently is just a blocked tear duct, so if it is really annoying go to the doctor, or just bathe it especially if you were to hold a warm flannel over it this may help it relieve it and drain the stye.

  • I was told by my GP to bathe my eyelid very carefully with hot water to draw out the infection.
The heat draws out the inflamation – puss – and when it is ready it simply drains itself.

  • i think that you just have to let it runs it’s course. i have a friend who said that she would prick the “head” when it was like a pimple pus dot and then gently push the pus out to ease the pressure. she was a nurse but i don’t know if you are supposed to do this yourself. maybe you can use eye drops to keep the eye moist so it doesn’t annoy you too much. i always wait it out. try to prevent the sty by making sure your eye make-up isn’t too old and don’t draw on the inner eyelid if you get what i’m saying. see the doc if you want to get info and maybe he can ease the symptoms for you
