Hello!

Our young family are relocating from interstate and moving in with us until they find their own place (2 adults, 4 year old and 8 month old). I know it’s going to get pretty crazy at times!! Looking for some tried and tested slow cooker meals that can also be frozen. This grandma is trying to stay one step ahead of them.

  • Slow Cooker Central is a great website with a wonderful range of recipes for the slow cooker!

  • I find that salmon cooks beautifully in an airfryer. Whilst it’s cooking I make a simple orange and fennel salad. Delicious.

  • A slow cooked beef bolognese pasta can be frozen and is always a hit with the kids

  • Casseroles, stews, soups, pulled pork or pulled chicken and gravy, homemade kebab meat are just a few I can think of.

  • I love doing a slow cooker pulled pork. It is great on a sandwich, in tacos or in a ragu. All you need is a cheap piece of pork shoulder, tomato paste, barbeque sauce, apple cider vinegar, and if you want to add some spice (mexican spice, american bbq, chipotle)

  • Slow cooker is your friend!
You can slow Cook a lovely stew, or a pasta sauce with hidden veg
Fried rice, potato bake, gnocchi, curries
It’s all easily frozen :) best of luck!

  • There are some fantastic slow cooker recipe groups on facebook.

  • sit a pork roast in the slow cooker, pour over a few jars of salsa and let it slow cook until it is tender and you can pull it apart with fork. It makes a great pulled pork meal to go with veg, on top of rice/pasta or on a baked potato. or even in a burger with some slaw.

  • Silverside in the slow cooker is amazing. Cover with water (may have to cut in half depending on size of cooker), add a quarter to half a cup of white vinegar and a tablespoon of brown sugar.
Cover and cook on high for 5 to 6 hours. Falls apart beautifully.

  • I love my slow cooker! Honestly you can cook just about anything in them. Lamb shanks, beef, chicken, whatever you have. Just do a google search for whatever you feel like and add in slow cooker and something should come up.

  • A slow cooked spag bol mince with vegies can be then turned into spag bol with pasta, used as a baked potato topper and can cook baked spuds in slow cooker. Can be used as a pie filling and also in taco boats topped with cheese.
Silverside cooks lovely in slow cooker.
    Lots of stews and casseroles
We also cook banana bread in slow cooker for a treat.
You can also make up any meat mixture, strwtched with vegies and add to steamed rice, mashed potatoe, noodles or pasta for quick and thrifty meals.

  • I do spag meat in mine it goes along way and as its been cooking all day is very flavoursome.

  • I love stews in winter .

  • You can look on the internet for ideas and recipes if you want something new as all I have is a large or two onions chopped two garlic cloves chopped in a small frypan put some oil in and brown add mince just keep moving in pan. If your using casserole steak diced put some plain flour in small plastic bag shake some pepper and salt in the bag put steak in shake around coating the steak take the onion and garlic out drain on paper if you need more oil put in pan add steak and brown quickly moving so not to stick. In slow cooker add one or two cans of tomatoes I usually get the diced as find nicer to add turn cooker on rinse cans out with half cup water and add in cooker add the onion and garlic add a beef cube crumbled I always get the msg free salt reduced put the meat in mix in you can add a bay leaf if you have them also chop some parsley and add. Turn on high put the lid on I always check after a few hours stir and make sure isn’t catching and enough fluid in put lid back on my slow cooker doesn’t have more than low or high temps on it. Also if you like capsicum you can add that in the start of cooking also some oregano as well it depends what you like. Also make sure it has thickened up you might have to thicken if too watery and this should feed 4 and double the meat etc more garlic if you like it and onion. You can have on spaghetti or rice it’s your choice and some garlic bread or crusty fresh buttered bread. You can use chicken pieces put chicken cube in instead of beef. I usually buy whole chicken when on special and cut up or leave whole chicken will fall apart you can leave the tomatoes out, you can add mixed vegetables with the chicken that makes it a very filling meal and do crusty buttered read. I usually make sure no fine bones are in it or take the bones out before I serve.

  • Chicken Fajitas – Slow cook onion, capiscums and chicken breast with taco seasoning for 4 hours, shred and freeze.
Beef and Mushroom casserole – beef cubed, mushrooms, carrot, celert a cup of red wine, a packet of tomato paste, hot water/beef stock, slow cook low for 8 hours, at the 4 hour mark add cubed potato.

  • I would recommend a chicken bacon and leek casserole, it is creamy and delicious serve over pasta.Any leftovers can be frozen then added as a pie filling at a later date

  • The slow cooker satchels at the super market have always done us well

  • I love a good slow cooker butter chicken, or my favourite easy ‘chuck a bunch of veggies in and hope for the best’
