Hello!

Ideas for rotational meal plans – Just creating a 3 week rotational meal plan as we will soon be adding another addition to our family, and with 3 children under 5 – meals need to be thought of ahead! I need meals that are healthy, quick and easy to prepare, and ones my husband could make too. Not really needing recipes, just ideas – so far I have things like homemade pizza, spag bol, tuna patties and salad, etc. Any other tips you have on how to manage shopping with 3 tiny ones would be of great help too! We mainly shop at Aldi and Coles. Thanks for your help!

  • Have a look at hello fresh or everyplate for ideas – most of their meals are super quick and easy

  • Wow, lots of great suggestions here already. Thinking I’m going to steal a few fir myself

  • vegetables, vegetables, vegetables.. they are SO good for you and the young ones will get used to eating them.. just explore… toss together sweet potate, onion, kale, cumin and tumeric and eat hot or cold. If you can’t get fresh produce easily then stock up and use dried beans/pulses – soak lentils and chickpeas for 30 minutes and they are always ready for a quick cook with some herbs and spices to fill hungry mouths with something that wont kill them in 30 years; if you aren’t worried about gluten/ dairy get them used to plain quick oats and milk (with fresh berries/fruit that you may have for a quick healthy snack).. so much better than the junk, processed junk and more processed junk that it is too easy to feed yourself and little ones

  • Cool! Really interesting reading the comments to this!

  • any meals that will feed you more than once! spag bol and then do something with the leftovers. Any meat and veg. Salad

  • Chicken schnitzel and mashed potato and peas, butter chicken, massaman curry, chicken enchiladas, chilli con carne.

  • quiches, potato bakes, shepherds pie. These are all things that can be made to last a couple of days and just add a tossed salad or veggies to the side. I make meat and veggie sausage rolls and rice paper spring rolls and freeze what we don’t eat for that day so it is an easy thing to pull out through in the oven .
Feed the new baby just before you go to the supermarket and hopefully they will sleep for the trip, get a capsule and seat trolley so the second youngest can sit in the trolley and give the two older ones there own shopping list and get them to help you find the items and cross them off their list

  • there are some good comments here

  • Coles or woollies online is essential with little ones! You could hit your local butcher for three cuts for meals, steak, lamb cutlets and chicken kieves. Lasagne, moussaka, pesto pasta dishes, nothing Wrong with meat and four veg!

  • I like kathry’s idea on rotating the protein part of the meal – an easy way to do it

  • how did it go? :)

  • meat fritters are great for left over meat plus you can add alot of grated veg into them too.

maybe try having a different type of food for each night of the week eg. fridays could be homemade takeaway like fish & chips or pizza etc, tuesdays could be pasta night and you could make a different one each week – lasagna, spag bol, carbonara, chicken and mushroom.

i have three little ones and shopping can be difficult. if you need to do a big shop it’s often easiest to do when the kids are being minded or late at night. if it’s just to pick up a few things i put my three in the trolley or i take my double pram, the eldest (3) walks and i push the pram and carry a basket.

  • How did you go with your meal plans?

  • An easy easy to do this is based on rotating the protein. So something like: chicken, beef, pork/turkey, vegetarian, fish and then weekend foods like pizza, lasagne or whatever are favourites in your house. From there you rotate the actual meals like: chicken kebabs, beef stroganoff, pork cutlets, quiche, fish & chips (homemade). Next week could be roast chicken, steak, turkey burger, veggie curry, baked snapper.

  • Did you manage to make some good rotational meal plans from the suggestions below?

  • Spaghetti Bol, Meat and Rice, Lasagne, Jacket Potatoes, Taco’s, Pancakes, Roast Meat and Vegies, Soup, Quiche, etc.

  • What ideas do you have so far from these answers?

  • Great ideas here hope this helps

  • There are some really good ideas here.

  • Pancakes is a good one, all you need is Plain Flour, Self Raising Flour, Milk and eggs
