Hello!

I have a low supply and always have to give formula for a top up, what medications are best to increase milk supply?

  • Try fenugreek suppliments. They helped me

  • My mum told me stout beer increased milk supply but I don’t know if that’s true (or safe).

  • Pump, pump, pump, pump, pump. Don’t skip feeds. Oats are good too.

  • Drink lots of water and I also used a nursing tea.

  • I found drinking lots of water helped me. I had very hungry babies and they were big 9lb and 10lbs. You have to keep yourself hydrated to keep the supply going. Honestly well done for persisting even if they need top ups you are doing an awesome job at giving them what you have.

  • don’t use med, just express between feeds

  • Best to speak to your Dr. You can try expressing between feeds to increase supply.

  • I usually would have an alcoholic drink, just one! And by the morning my supply would be massive. The drink leaves the blood and does NOT linger in your milk! just saying its not the best tip but it worked for me! During this time I would make sure my baby had a full feed before I relaxed and had a drink!

  • there are some good comments here

  • maybe ask your doctor as they would know more

  • Keep feeding, expressing, feeding, expressing. The more you feed and express the more milk you will supply. Also check the latching of your baby as if not latched correctly can cause milk to reduce as thinks doesn’t need as much. Australia Breastfeeding Association is a must. They are awesome and can help you with this.

  • Can always top up with bottle

  • Some good advice there below.

  • We used to try to have barley as that was supposed to help

  • Hope you have had success, the forum has good ideas.

  • domperidone is great for milk supply. Just go to your gp and ask for a script. Other things that help supply are oats, protiens and an ingredient in curry i cant remember what it is but if you start having more curries that should help. there are supply cookies on the internet that will give you recipes. Perhaps look them up.

  • go to your local doctor or speak to the community health nurse for support with this. there is also a breastfeeding helpline that can assist 1800 686 268

  • My GP told me to drink a stout with dinner. It worked a bit

  • See a Naturopath to ask about natural remedies, as others have said ‘Fengugreek’ is a good start.

  • Use Fenugreek, Cumin seeds and drink lots of water.
