I am not because I frankly don’t think my parents would make a decision in MY best interests if my brothers needed spare parts. My husband is; he says if he’s not using his organs anymore, he’d like them to do some good for someone.
I’ve been a registered donor since I was in high school over 10 years ago. I would hate someone to lose a loved one if my organs could save them. I would also donate my children’s organs if something were to ever happen to them.
I have put on my license to become an organ donor but have been recently told that there is a register to put your name on am not sure how or where to do this. I have had two friends who would not be here today if someone had not donated their organs so that has made the decision easy for me. Both had Heart transplants and are living a better life now as are their families.
All in this family are organ donors.
And the quote’s are sooo true:
Don’t take your organs to heaven . Heaven knows we need them here.
Souls go to heaven. Organs don’t.
I’ve been listed as an organ donor for almost 30 years and have all my organs love listed for donation. our family is very open and we have never had issues talking about anything and everyone is full supportive of my decision. My descision to become a donor was very easy as I figured it serves 2 purposes, I can help someone else maybe even a second chance at life while a part of me get to live on in someone else.
I am and have been for a long time. Lots of people are uncomfortable with this subject, even my husband felt that if he signed up he would suddenly become a donor in reality. I have always thought that if I was past the point of no return at least give someone else a chance at life. It was a very simple choice for me and three of my sons have also signed up. It also helps if you have done the admin before the family are confronted with the question if you end up in hospital after an accident or something similar. Once I did it, I could get on with life and actually forget about it completely, until questions like this pop up.
It was easy for me as my daughter has had a lot of Kidney infections and I thought that if I wasn’t a compatible donor if and when she needs it then I can help someone else when the time comes because somebody will probably end up helping her.
I became an organ donor when I read up a lot on the wonderfull research that was being done and the importance of giving someone hope with receiving a new body part/organ
The donor of my brain came about when I did volunteering to a research exercise that was being done by university students and Mind and Brain Association and another associated with the Sydney Royal Hospital Randwich
I would definitely prefer my organs to be donated to someone in need than buried or cremated with my body, I also believe that we should have an opt out system so that we are all potential donors unless we choose not to be. There are so many people on waiting lists for organs and it seems that not anywhere enough donors.
My husband is partially blind as he has a degenerative eye condition called kerataconis. He will eventually need a corneal transplant. He will rely on someone donating their corneas when they pass away. I knew I couldn’t expect someone to give the ultimate gift to my family if we need it, if I wasn’t prepared to do the same. I am now donating everything in the event of my death. I will also donate everything in the event anything happens to my children. For me it would be reassuring to know they are living on in someone else. I hope my perspective helps you with your decision.
