Quilting doesn’t have to be expensive at all. I’ve made lots of quilts from rest materials and always gather more. It can be rather time consuming and addictive

Yes, my mum is a quilter and she can find a quilting shop wherever she goes and spends hours in them lol. And actually sewing the quilts takes many, many hours.

It can be since buying beautiful fabrics can be addictive! But you can shop during sales and in op shops to get bargains. You can also upcycle old clothes, sheets etc with great results.

If you want for fabric sales at spotlight or lincraft, it can save you quite a bit of money. Quilting however can be pricey!

I found a couple of places online that sell kits at reasonable prices for getting started. I’m trying to find a Christmas count down calendar for my daughter to hang on the wall but have yet to find the right one.

The fabric can be expensive. Depending on what you’re making and the pattern that will determine how time consuming it is. But if you enjoy sewing I think you’ll love quilting

I have seen a lot of material shops nowadays so maybe search under your local area and I’m sure you will find stores that sell wholesale fabrics at really great prices . Also places like Spotlight should have lots of to choose from and you can buy the cheaper fabrics as a starter until you become better at it . Good hobby .

I think the fabrics are expensive. You can get offcuts from op shops and this makes it more affordable but harder to find “nice” colour and pattern combinations. Also easy to make mistakes when learning so best to start with scraps. Backing fabric also have to think about and the filling.

Time consuming, yes, especially when learning. Expensive….not so much cos you can make a lot from scraps and off cuts which are often given away

Such a good idea BellaB to start with something small.

I did a little quilting in my younger years, and used fabric scraps, and hand sewed, so it didn’t cost much. Now people buy fabrics specifically, and use flash sewing machines. It looks really good but I think it’d cost. Maybe you could try something small like placemats to dip your toe in?
