  • some good answers here I’m gonna try eucalyptus or lemon they both smell awesome and if they get rid of spiders or deter them even better lol.

  • When I was younger we used to have a woodfire and my stepdad always said that they used to come in more frequent numbers when we had piles of wood stacked in put shed. I think the lemon idea sound good. You have to be so careful with these spiders as the bites in certain people can be very nasty. Good luck

  • I am interested in the responses, too.

  • Do let us know which one worked Thanks

  • Can’t really provide a pet friendly advice, only to use Baygon or Mortein.

  • I hate spiders and I’ve always used lemon.

  • Use a teaspoon of lemon oil in a litre of water and spray around where the spiders are. Alternativly rub a cut lemon across a broom head and sweep the area- lemon deters them without hurting them

  • They say lemon juice sprayed around windows and such where spiders hang around deters them.
Personally, I try and keep a few daddy long legs spiders around they prey on red backs and other spiders.

  • Try mint, grow some around the house.

  • I have been bitten by these spiders it was horrific within a 1/2 hour my neck had accelerated & I was very sick Hate to think how a child would handle a bite.Get in the professional as they use safe sprays check and find one that uses safe sprays. When they came we found out we were infested by spiders!!!!

  • Good ideas! A use eucalyptus on the floors lately and haven’t seen spiders in a while.

  • I’ll have to give eucalyptus oil a try also!

  • White tail spiders are nasty, always empty gumboots, gardening gloves etc out, keep blankets and doonahs off the floor. The black house spider although just as horrible eat their young and vice verca. I tend to spray ( I use Mortine Black every other year, or less) the outside of the house, or at least wipe all webs away every 6 months.
Pepermint oil is a natural deterent. If you are bitten clean the area very well and apply betadine, seek medical advice. Mum’s dog had to have surgery due to a white tail spider bite causing a necrotic ulcer.

  • eucalyptus oil ive heard. i love the smell as well

  • I hate chemicals as well, but I also hate spiders. I get the house sprayed once a year, it’s supposed to be hospital grade stuff they spray, it’s great because I don’t see any spiders

  • i have one if u realy need it.

  • No idea???

  • you can get the mortein indoor surface spray which is great. I use it all the time and it works wonders. Try your local supermarket

  • Useful tips which could help me too Thanks

  • Maybe ask at somewhere like Bunnings – they are usually pretty good for suggesting plants or sprays which are not harsh chemicals (like ones with more natural ingredients).
