Hello!

The MOM recipe collection is growing all the time, and I spend ages reading, finding, and choosing easy ones for my husband to cook.
Now that the collection of recipes has grown so much though, it’s getting harder to find what I’m looking for I think.
Would it be possible to sort the recipes out a bit and have for example, beef with beef, dips with dips, soup with soups etc? I have no idea if someone clever with computers at MOM would do it, or MOM blog followers work on it, but I think it would be a great project. I’m hopeless with computers, and I’m now very severely physically disabled, so can’t write or do anything really, but my mouth works really well, and if a MOM person with a good working mouth could help, I’d love to.

NOTE FROM MoM – hi everyone, we are very interested to hear what you think! We have been working in the background on something to tie all the recipes together and make them easy for you to find – any suggestions are most welcome!

  • Taste.com.au is a great website and a resource I wouldn’t be without. You can search on a specific ingredient or a recipe name. There are also recipe collections available to search and browse (i.e. Beef, Mince, Celebration Cakes etc..).

It also gives you the opportunity to set up your own recipe collections (you can label them yourself, e.g. Easy dinners, Baking, Baby Food, Chicken, Soups etc.) and you can add recipes on the website to your personal recipe collection/s (you can add it to several collection e.g. I might add Spaghetti Carbonara to: Easy Dinners; Pasta; Pork collections).

You can give recipes star ratings and also provide comments on the recipes. It’s a great website. I’d love to see MoM use a similar method of organisation.

  • it would great to have some foods in themes as well such as for parties, for dinners, for breakfast, for snacks etc

  • I use the search bar a lot to find particular recipes; but it would be great to have them categorized.

  • I’d love to be able to search by ingredients to utilise what already have at home!

  • I also think sub categories when searching would be beneficial. Types of meat etc.

  • I think this would be a great idea, especially if you search on an ingredient.

  • I currently love the recipes section; however; any improvements are most welcome.

  • This is a great idea, it would make it so much easier to find a recipe that you could make with whatever ingredients you have.

  • I have another suggestion – can the recipes that we recommend be earmarked or book marked for easy future reference when we log in? Like a my recipe section that is accessed via log in only

  • I also would love a special section for favourite mom recipe that we can save our favourite recipes in and excess them when needed.
The search bar at the top of this site is really hard to use and when searching for a particular recipe you really have got to know the correct name for the recipe other wise it is pointless. eg I have a recipe for Wattleseed, Macadamia and white choc DIGGER ANZAC’S but if you type in Anzac Biscuits my recipe does not even appear.
Wishing you well on improving this section as I am sure it will be a challenge.

  • Sounds like a great idea

  • I have so many ideas as far as categories, sub categories, slow cookers, air fryer, snacks, over lapping, blah, blah, but I need someone that can write, plus know what they are doing with a computer. I don’t even know how to take a photo, or use an old one to get it on the page. I don’t even know how to work a mobile phone. I’m sure the only reason I find anything here is because I feel safe here, and just love it.

  • I’d love some sorting too. I sometimes can’t find a recipe I know I’ve seen before. What about a favourites section where we can save recipes we want to try. I’m not sure how it wouldd be done or if it would be possible, but it would be great to have my own folder of saved MoM recipes.

  • Yes it would be good to have the main category then sub categories and may be keep new ones in a different section up there for a week or so and then they go into the categories to make it easier to find them later.

  • I have found searching for recipes to be easy and I love it when I come across an unexpected recipe.

  • It would be helpful if there was a function that you could compile your own ‘favourite’ recipes folder. There is the ‘love it’ function however I would find it useful if you could love a recipe and it saves it to your own recipe favourite folder. I love recipes that I want to cook but have to remember what they were and search for them at a later date. It would be so much easier if I could just click on ‘your love recipes’ and there are all the recipes that you have saved.

  • I bad a thought – a search function for meal type with an added search function for difficulty rating ie easy dinner options. That would be awesome!

  • sounds like a good idea to me if it could be done. I print off what I like and have a folder that helps.

  • Im having trouble locating things but the search function is good if you remember the name of what you are looking for. I put it down to my own user errors and being on a tablet. To be honest though the site could use some sprucing up ie – old questions in the answers section could be closed off (mums asking about birthing stuff when they were due in 2012/2013 for example,), I can’t find the rules for the competitions (only on entry per person?) And once I’ve answered a question it doesn’t take me back to the field I was just in ie maybe house section 4 pages in. But otherwise all good, enjoying this site!

  • I’ve found that the search feature didn’t work very well for me. For example when I recently searched for Anzac biscuits, it didn’t come up with the one I remember seeing and was particularly looking for. Maybe a separate search function that searches only the recipes.

A seasonal recipe option might be handy, or an option were you can quickly find recipes that incorporated seasonal produce.

Sometimes you feel like a particular cuisine, so this could be an option. Say Italian, Indian, Thai, Middle eastern etc.

You could also be able to restrict your search by time taken.
