Mammogram recall

Hello!

I have a mammogram recall, the appointment is tomorrow, I’m going on my own. I was told it was routine, but to bring a support person (?) .

I was informed that as it was my first mammogram that they have nothing to compare to and the radiographers are not in agreement, so I am being recalled.

Has anyone else had this happen to them and if you don’t mind sharing what was your experience?

I am a little worried.

I have my first appointment this weekend so I will be interested to hear if I get recalled. I will post again after my appointment and let you know.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear that. I recently had my first mammogram, and the lady who performed it told me to not be surprised if I was called to go for a follow up appointment as usually they like to check that anything that shows up is “normal for you”. She told me that it was very likely being my first time that they would do a follow up appointment if that helps ease your mind at all.

You could be called back after your mammogram because:
1. The pictures weren’t clear or didn’t show some of your breast tissue, so they need to be retaken.
2. The radiologist (doctor who reads the mammogram) sees something suspicious, such as calcifications or a mass (which could be a cyst or solid mass).
I can imagine this is a bit scary.
As for bringing a support person; what do you want yourself ? is there someone close to you you like to share your concerns with, who’s available and who can stand by your side ?
Try not to worry too much until you know more facts.
