Hello!

How to manage asthma? I’m in need of advice on how to tackle asthma. I have just been told I have it and been given the inhaler. Wondering if any other mums have it also, and have any unique ways of making life easier?

  • My friend had this, sounds like its very difficult!

  • Be careful on smoking days like we have been having.

  • the inhaler should help. also get a demidifier (sp?)

  • ask your doc for a preventer inhaler you use it every day and it help to prevent your attacks if you are having them

  • Don’t let the thought of it stress you out, you just need to remember to take the inhaler with you when you go out.

  • Get into the habit of carrying you puffer, and maybe make notes of anything you are unsure about/triggers etc to show your docter next time you go in..

  • good luck with this also

  • I don’t think it can be controlled without the meds, just try to avoid triggers that you are aware of

  • I agree that it is important to educate those you spend most of your time with

  • Hope other mums can be of help to you

  • Great question, thanks for posting this! I was wondering aswell 🙂

  • Take your puffer where ever you go and use it accordingly. Has your doctor written up a Asthma Plan as that will help you get your barrings around what to do and when to do it. Good luck.

  • Carry a puffer everytime you are out, and try keep calm

  • educate your friends and family on what to do should you have an attack.

  • Don’t strain yourself and make it worse, take it easy, and see how you go.

  • keep your puffer with you when you go out

  • You go on with life as normal, just make sure you take your puffer where ever you go.

  • do you have a preventer or ventolin? either way make sure you are taking them. try to keep the house clean to avoid breathing in dust, buy a really good vaccum…mine gets set off alot by cat hair so best to find the triggers and avoid them if possible. try to keep your inhaler on you and water at all times just in case 🙂 good luck

  • I use a preventative inhaler as well as always have Ventolin on hand for those “short of breath” moments when you just have to function! I find that if I don’t get my script filled before the one I’m using runs out and I miss a few doses that the slightest exposure to an allergen is all it takes to start feeling tight in the chest. Antihistamine during seasonal changes helps to minimise the breathing issues that hayfever can bring about to, so speak to your doctor about which one is best for your needs. I take Polaramine as I’ve been told it’s safe while breastfeeding and I don’t get drowsy on it, but it affects people differently so it might not be suitable for you!

  • I developed asthma when pregnant with my youngest, stick to the advice of your doctor, use your preventative and puffer when necessary. Always listen to the specialist asthma is a serious situation, don’t just ask advice on web sites to get information that may jot suit your needs…..
