Hello!

I’m due with baby number 2 next month and would like some meal ideas or recipes of dinners that are easy to freeze. I’ve heard the usual pasta sauce and lasagne. Keeping in mind we also have a 2 year old. Thanks

  • I would suggest quick easy and freezable its so easy to cook abit extra lasagne, apricot chicken, fried rice, carbonara sauce, bolognaise bake, assorted flavours of canalonni or a variety of soups, pumpkin, chicken& corn and simply freeze a portion for those hectic unorganised nights grab it out and heat!!! All the best!

  • Taste.com should have some good ideas, particularly if you specially search for things that freeze well

  • Moussaka is a great freezer dish, as is any mince dish such as lasagne, or Cornish pastie

  • Some really good suggestions below.

  • Meat and rice, Quiche, Spaghetti Bolognaise, chicken tonight, etc

  • What about shepards pie or quiche.

  • Check out the dinners section in the ‘Real Recipes’ on the MOM page. There are some beauties there!

  • I freeze almost every meal and make a huge salad.

  • Most dishes can be frozen. I find the best way is to double the recipe you are having for dinner and freeze half. That way it cuts down on the effort put into doing batches for the freezer. Instead of being in the kitchen doing special meals to be frozen, you make dinner, just doubling the quantity and in no time your freezer will be full!

  • Spag bog is always handy or rissoles made for hubby and special ones for the kids. you can also make your own spinach and ricotta pastries as they freeze well too. Homemade pies are also on my list, beef, chicken and any flavours your like

  • Chicken cacciatore, bolognaise (very versatile!) pikelets when they’re older, lamb and barley stew, apricot chicken, quiche is great too, even corned beef freezes well

  • All kinds of stews and soup are perfect for this, and you can have some bread and a side salad ready in seconds to round out the meal too.

  • Stews would be my number one choice. Curries, minestrone soup, chili con carne…

  • Great question, thanks for posting this, love some of the new ideas.

  • soups, pies, sausage rolls, stews, casseroles, sauces, fruit purees, lots of stuff!

  • Plan all meals ahead a set aside a cooking day. Mince can be nsde up into bolognese and lasagne and both csn be frozen. Just cook extra each day and freeze left overs.

  • Soup! When you get a hot roast chicken from woolworths or coles and you have leftovers, just slow cook all the leftover chicken in a big pot, add some chicken stock and vegetables and voila! You can freeze soup for ages too and will last a while.

  • Frittatas
    Pasta bakes
    Tuna bakes
    Potato bakes
These all freeze very well and for at least 4 months. You can vary the addition off vegetables to make numerous dishes.

  • chicken pie, casseroles, lasanga, spag bol sauces, what I do is use the 4 ingredients cookbook they are great and only take a few min to prepare while baby is asleep get the 2 yr old to help.

  • shepherds pie, bolognase, tuna morney, patties, pies, cheese and spinnach triangles, lasagne, mild curries, stroganoff, pasta dishes, fried rice, all these can be prepared and put into portion sizes and will freeze well.
