  • Been there, it took about 5 years in my case.
Personally I think it’s just part of life. It’s like the teenage years, you have to go through it and once you’ve passed those years your body and mind / spirit all feel in a balance again.
In the meantime just take care for yourself and listen to your body.

  • My friend is taking some sort of herbal remedy for her hot flushes. Probably best to see a doctor first.

  • Some good points below, but I’d agree with talking with your doctor. They have the specialised knowledge to tailor things for you and your body.

  • yeah i agree with seeing a doc. try the fan and layers and then you can adjust. good luck!

  • doTERRA have a really good Essential Oil blend called Clarry Calm which is a especially for women. A friend of mine used to have terrible monthly pain and lived on pain killers for the week but using this she hasn’t touched a pain killer since. – might be worth a try, and it’s all natural.

  • Loving all the responses and ideas, my partner just gave me an early christmas pressie, its a chilli pillow, lol, a cooling gel mat to insert into your pillow, will let you know how this goes with the night sweats.

  • I think I am slowly getting symptoms, not sure as I am only 48 but hearing terrible news about this all the time. From what I heard from others , it is best to visit your GP and they can recommend some hormone tablets and /or suggest changes in diet , exercise etc.. I still think it certainly beats having the monthlys so hope it gets better for you soon .

  • If your after natural remedies, I would go see a naturopath or try some of the oil blends you can get. There are so many products on the market , so it can get confusing , as to what to buy

  • there ARE LOTS OF NATURAL remedies that help quite a lot. I did not have very severe symptoms as when I had a hysterectomy etc my ovaries were left intact as they were healthy so this eased me into menopause. The worst I HAD WERE MINOR HOT FLUSHES AND I FELT LIKE I was heating up from the inside. I never looked hot or red. I used to laugh about it. But I do understand some women have a very tough time with it. Don Quai is supposed to be fantastic, remifemine is also reputed to be good too. It is an individual thing. What is good for one lady may not work for another. Pharmacists and drs will be able to advise you. I hope you feel better soon.

  • Mums I know that suffer do have a fan in their room when sleeping to help with being hot. It does help them. Good Luck!

  • I’ve heard about bioidentical hormones. Are they easy to get?

    please seek assistance .
    you will feel empowered

  • My doctor gave me patches to wear which you replace weekly. As long as you move them each week they dont make your skin sore (and many such items inflame my skin). After starting on these I just wandered through Menopause without really noticing a thing. No night sweats etc. Still had the occassional episode of excess emotion but hey who doesn’t even without menopause. I would heartily recommend this method as it leaches the hormones into your body slowly over the week rather the a jolt every time you take a tablet. Good luck. Promise it wont last & that this will truly help. Michelle

  • I haven’t gone through these symptoms yet, but from what I understand soy milk or soy based products can help with the symptoms of menopause.

  • I’d talk to my GP if I were you. Maybe magnesium could help you, vitamin D, fish oil, evening primrose oil. I’m not in menopause yet, but very close. It must be terrible to feel that way so often!!

  • I find that taking Promensil and Evening primrose oil together helps me. It takes about 2-3 weeks to work. I don’t know if is a placebo effect or not. But I do know if I stop my hot flushes etc return after 2-3 weeks.

  • Definitely go and see your GP – there is no need to suffer. Best of luck.

  • see a specialist – we old bags don’t need to suffer anymore – there are all sorts of tests and remedies out there… All the best x

  • These are so normal during menopause. I went through this at 38 and it wasn’t pleasant – GP’s can be worth talking to. Time eventually solves the problems. I also took to sleeping with the air conditioner on. Make sure you keep calcium intake up as your bodies needs change.
